A traffic stop that occurred yesterday morning near the intersection of North Street and St. Georges Avenue had lead to numerous charges for 33-year-old Matthew Sloss.
During a search of the vehicle, officers seized substances suspected to be fentanyl, methamphetamine, psilocybin, LSD, and hydromorphone, states a news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.
A variety of weapons, including a handgun and a conducted energy weapon, were also located during the search.

On Oct. 19, 2021, officers with the Crime Suppression Unit, Drug Enforcement Unit, and Investigations Services charged 33-year-old Matthew Sloss with weapon offences.
Around 11:45 a.m., officers observed a pickup truck travelling in the area of Albert Street West and conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of North Street and St. Georges Avenue.
Officers developed grounds to search the vehicle, and during a subsequent search of the vehicle officers located the following:
- a loaded .25 calibre handgun,
- ammunition,
- a conducted energy weapon,
- a switchblade knife,
- approximately 11.43 grams of a substance believed to be fentanyl,
- approximately 1.89 grams of a substance believed to be methamphetamine,
- approximately 7.55 grams of a substance believed to be psilocybin,
- a substance believed to be lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD)
- four tablets of a substance believed to be hydromorphone; and
- approximately $2,603 of Canadian currency
The estimated retail value of the narcotics seized is $5,904.
He was arrested and charged with:
- unauthorized possession of a firearm,
- careless storage of a firearm,
- careless storage of ammunition,
- possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose,
- possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition,
- unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle,
- possession of a prohibited weapon x2,
- possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized,
- possession of a weapon knowing its possession is unauthorized x2,
- possession of ammunition knowing its possession is unauthorized,
- possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking,
- possession of a controlled substance x5, and
- possession of property obtained by crime
He was held for bail court and remanded into custody. He is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 21, 2021.
