If you feel like you’ve seen a lot of car accidents in Sault Ste. Marie this winter, it’s not your imagination.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service released data for the number of collisions that happened last month for the area, which includes Prince Township.

There were nearly 400 collisions in the area in January, the highest amount in the last decade.

With 391 fender benders in January, it tops January 2019 (313 collisions) and January 2015 (304 collisions) by a wide margin.

At nearly 13 collisions per day, police and emergency services were kept very busy.

While not all of the collisions were weather related, a spokesperson for the police service said weather was a factor in many of them.

“We did receive a lot of snow and experienced several days of inclement weather,” said Lincoln Louttit, manager of corporate communications.

“It is fair to say, many of these reported collisions can be attributed to adverse driving conditions.

The following chart contains the number of January collisions provided by police for the last decade.
