Victim suffers serious injuries after assault by three youths

Two 15-year-olds and a 16-year-old face assault charges as a result

Three youths face charges stemming from an incident that happened earlier this week.

In a news release issued today, Sault Ste. Marie police say around 6 p.m. on Nov. 6, officers responded to a report of an assault that had happened earlier in the day. 

An investigation revealed one of the accused attempted to initiate a fight with the victim and, when the victim ran away, the three accused chased them and began punching and kicking them repeatedly while they were on the ground. The victim sustained serious physical injuries.

Officers located and arrested all three accused and as a result, the two 15-year-old youths were charged with assault causing bodily harm. They were both released on undertakings. One is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 24, 2024, and the other is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 21, 2025.

The 16-year-old youth was charged with assault causing bodily harm and failure to comply with an undertaking. This accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused are considered innocent unless proven guilty.
