A 26-year-old is facing charges of assault and uttering threats after Sault police say a person was forcibly removed from their car, hit multiple times and threatened with death.

At around 11:45 p.m. on June 2, police say they received a complaint about the incident, which occurred in the 200 block of Great Northern Road.

"The victim reported the accused had forcefully removed them from their vehicle, struck them multiple times, and threatened to kill them," says a news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service. "The accused and the victim are known to each other."

The suspect voluntarily attended the police station on June 3, the release states.

Navneet Singh, 26, was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear back in court on August 14, 2023.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
