Sault police have charged a 22-year-old woman with impaired driving and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle after a car drove over a sidewalk and into a house.

The crash occurred around 6:30 a.m. on June 9 near the intersection of Wellington Street East and Biggings Avenue.

When officers arrived on the scene, they developed grounds to believe the driver was impaired by alcohol, says a news release from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.

Placed under arrest, the driver provided two breath samples that registered over the legal limit, police allege.

Dawn Charette is charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and/or Drug
  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80+)
  • Dangerous Operation

She was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled back in court on July 10, 2023.

None of the allegations against Charette have been tested in court and she is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
