Two people face charges under the Re-Opening Ontario Act following a gathering that took place in the 100 block of Glen Avenue on Thursday, Jan. 27, states a news release issued today by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.
Lincoln Louttit, Sault Police spokesperson, confirmed the gathering took place at the former Sister Mary Clare school property.
A joint investigation with Sault police and Algoma Public Health "determined an illegal indoor public event took place that evening."
Both 60-year-old Timothy Coderre and 58-year-old Steven Hunter are scheduled to appear in court on March 30 and stand charged with failing to comply with a continued order to not host or organize an indoor public event.
A conviction carries a minimum fine of $10,000 and a maximum fine of $100,000.
"Further infractions will be dealt with similarly and put before the courts," said a Sault Police statement.
