ASSAULT CHARGE LAID
A 15-year-old youth will appear in bail court today after being arrested yesterday morning by city police. The youth was wanted from an incident on September 11th in which it is alleged that he assaulted another youth by pushing the victim and grabbing the victim by the throat.

At the time of the offence, the accused youth was on a probation order. He has been charged with two counts of assault and one count of breach of probation.


SLEEPING IN THE CAR
46-year-old Kenneth Ross McAllister of 15 Clergue Street will appear in bail court this morning after city police arrested him shortly before 7 pm last night.

Police were called to a west-end address regarding a male passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle. Upon arrival officers found the accused in the drivers seat but he was awake at this point.
Officers noted obvious signs of impairment and as a result arrested him. While at the police station, McAllister refused to provide a breath sample.

During the course of dealing with the accused, officers learned he was on a probation order as well as a release document with terms including not to consume alcohol and to keep the peace.

Mr. McAllister has been charged with one count of impaired driving, one count of fail to provide breath sample, one count of breach of probation and 5 counts of breach of a release document.


SHOPLIFTING
Around 5 pm last night city police were called to the Sears Store on Bay Street after store security had apprehended a suspected shoplifter.

It is alleged that 20-year old Jesse Matthew Bignell of 61 Panoramic Drive walked out of the store with an unpaid candle in his hand. He was apprehended by security and turned over to city police.

Bignell will appear in court on November 1st after being charged with one count of theft under $5,000.


BREAK & ENTERS
City Police are investigating a number of break and enters that were reported yesterday:

Northern Fencing reported a break and enter in which a number of tools were taken.

Sometime over the weekend, thieves gained entry to an office at the Sault Area Hospital and made of with 2 compaq computers, black and silver in colour, each with a 17” LCD display screens.

A home in the 100 block of St. George’s Avenue West was entered and some jewellery was taken.

A residence in the 500 block of Goulais Avenue was entered and thieves made off with a play station unit and a large number of games.


YOUTH ON BIKE ASSAULTED
City Police are looking for 2 youths in relation to a robbery that occurred in the downtown area last night.

Between 8 and 8:30 pm, a youth was on his bike in the 100 block of Hudson Street when 2 youths started to yell at him. The 2 youths approached the first youth and they started to intimidate him.

One of the two youths hit the youth who was on the bike in the face a number of times. During the assault, the victim was knocked off the bicycle. The two youths then stole the bike and left the scene.

The two suspects who committed the robbery are described as follows:

Native male, 15 to 17 years old, wearing dark clothing consisting of a dark ball cap, a dark sweater with a hood, was approximately 5’9” tall and had a heavier build.

Native male, 13 to 15 years old, approximately 5’5” tall, wearing a black exco sweater with white writing on it, ball cap on backwards and wearing baggy blue jeans.

A description of the bike is unavailable at this time.
