Shortly before 4 a.m. this morning City Police received a 911 call from a residence on Cathcart Street. The caller reported that a male not known to them had entered the home after another resident of the address gave the male a key.

Shortly before 4 a.m. this morning City Police received a 911 call from a residence on Cathcart Street.  The caller reported that a male not known to them had entered the home after another resident of the address gave the male a key.  It is alleged that the male damaged the apartment by ripping down a curtain, throwing trash around, cracking a sink, damaging dishes and putting a hole in the wall. Officers attended the area and as the suspect was leaving the residence officers advised him to stop.  The male allegedly raised his fist at an officer and appeared he was going to strike the officer.  The male was taken into custody after a brief struggle. 47-year old Nelson Dannrath of 612 Shafer Avenue has been charged with one count of mischief under $5,000 and one count of resist arrest. He appeared in bail court this morning.

Yesterday afternoon a residence on Creekside Lane was entered. It is unknown if anything was taken at this time.

In the last 24 hours city police received 15 reports of thefts of vehicles. Vehicles were entered on River Road, Tamarack Avenue, Queen Street East, Dacey Road, Parkinworth Place, Champagne Drive, Muriel Drive, Royal York Boulevard and Wiber Street. Items taken include cartons of cigarettes, an IPod, jewellery, IPod chargers, Oakley sunglasses and change.  The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would again like to remind the public not to leave items of value in their vehicles.

On September 22, 2014, city police were called to Walmart in the Station Mall. Store security had arrested three men for shoplifting fishing equipment. When police arrived, they discovered one of the men was wanted on an outstanding warrant for break and enter. The three charged with theft under $5,000 are Jake Pelletier (age 21) and Mark Cote (age 23). The third man, Matthew MacLean (age 23), was also charged with break and enter from an incident earlier in September. They will be appearing in court on October 20, 2014 and October 27, 2014 respectively.
 
On September 22, 2014, city police officers spotted a man known to them getting on a city bus. He was in the company of a female he was not supposed to associate with as per court order. He was arrested and charged with breach of a court order. When police searched the man subsequent to arrest, they discovered several stolen items on his possession. The items were taken from vehicle break-ins over the last several nights. Charged with breach of probation x 2 and possession of stolen property x 2 is Nathan Boissoneau (age 27). He will be appearing in bail court on September 23, 2014 at 10 a.m.
 
On September 22, 2014, city police were called to a domestic dispute in the downtown area. On arrival they discovered a man who was on a probation order with several conditions surrounding an ex-girlfriend. He was charged with failure to abide by those conditions including not to harass her, stay away from her residence and failing to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. He will be appearing in court on September 23, 2014 at 10 a.m. to answer to the charges.
 
On September 22, 2014, city police responded to a report of a domestic dispute. Information was received indicating a male has been continually watching his ex-girlfriend. He had attended at her residence and punched the door which swung into the wall creating a hole. While the police were at the complainant’s address, they counted over twenty telephone calls to her that were made by the male. On one of the calls the man threatened to burn down her house, he was subsequently located and arrested. He is charged with criminal harassment x 2, threatening real property and mischief. He will be appearing in bail court at 10 a.m. today.
 
On September 23, 2014, city police responded to another domestic complaint. It is alleged a man, who had been consuming alcohol, showed up at his ex- girlfriend’s residence. An argument ensued and she was allegedly assaulted and threatened with being choked. The man also punched holes in the bedroom wall and the bedroom door. The man also became so enraged he grabbed the woman’s dog and slammed the animals head through the drywall injuring it. He was quickly caught and arrested. During the subsequent investigation by police, the man is also alleged to have committed an assault on the girl at a New Year’s Eve party this past year. He is charged with assault x 2, mischief, threatening, and injuring a domestic animal. He will be appearing in bail court this morning at 10 a.m.
 
On September 23, 2014, city police were on patrol in the west end of the city. They noticed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed and pulled the vehicle over. The driver was found to have been consuming alcohol. He was arrested for impaired driving and brought to the Police Station. O.P.P. assisted with the intoxilizer test and the man was found to be over the legal limit. He was also on a probation order to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. He was already suspended from driving. Thomas Frank Pine (age 34) is charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle, consuming over the legal limit, suspended driving and breach of probation. He will be appearing in court on October 27, 2014 at 9 a.m.
