9-1-1-SERVICE BACK THIS MORNING
At approximately 11:45 am yesterday, the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service lost its 9-1-1 service along with radio communications and computer record management systems. Within ½ hour the 9-1-1-phone system was re-routed through Fire Services dispatch and a police dispatcher was assigned to the Fire Services building to assist with emergency calls. Radio communications were switched to a back-up channel.

The problem was traced to construction crews who severed a phone cable in front of the Arrow Home Building Centre east of the Police Services Building. 9-1-1-phone service was fully restored and the first 9-1-1 call was received at about 6:00 pm last evening. The computer records management systems were restored overnight and radio communications are expected to be fully restored sometime this morning. There were no major incidents attributed to the severed cable.

COUNTERFEIT $20’s IN AREA
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, Espanola OPP and Greater Sudbury Police Service are investigating several instances where counterfeit twenty-dollar bills have been passed at fast food restaurants, gas bars and larger retail stores during the weekends.

Please be aware that the twenty-dollar bills are of fairly good quality but feel thinner and look shinier than genuine bills. The following serial numbers have surfaced repeatedly:

Witness information from Espanola has linked suspects driving a 1998 Honda Civic black, Ontario licence AJED 110. Three people were seen travelling in this vehicle, all dark skinned with heavy accents, driver had black curly hair to cheekbones with pock marked face.

FEMALE ASSAULTS MALE
On Saturday, the 04th of October 03 at approximately 5:30 p.m. at a downtown residence, a 25-year-old female assaulted an adult male following a family domestic argument. The accused assaulted the male by pushing him and hitting him in the ribs, face, arms and entire body. She also jumped on his stomach with both feet. The victim received minor injuries in the incident. On Monday, October 6th at 3:00 pm patrol officers arrested and charged the accused with Assault. She will appear in bail court.

BREACH OF RECOGNIZANCE
On Saturday the 04th of October 2003 at approximately 9:00 pm, Elwood Goodmurphy, age 76 of 39 Celine Court breached his recognizance by attending at a residence he was not supposed to be at. One of the conditions on his recognizance was to not attend at certain places where specific people reside. On the 06th of October at approximately 8:16 pm the accused was arrested and charged with Breach of Recognizance. He will appear in bail court.

YOUTH WITH WEAPON AND DRUGS
On Monday, October 6th in the early afternoon a 17-year-old young person attended at high school for class. The youth was observed carrying a BB pistol. Police officers attended at the school and arrested and charged the youth with Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to the Public Peace. Officers also located 24 grams of marihuana on the accused that was packaged in individual bags. The accused was also charged with Possession of a Controlled Drug for the Purpose of Trafficking. The accused will appear in bail court.

AMERICAN YOUTH CHARGED
On Wednesday, October 1st, 2003 at 10:30 am a 17-year-old youth from Columbus Ohio took a car and a credit card from a family member and left Columbus. Another 15-year-old young person, also from Columbus accompanied the accused. The vehicle was reported stolen to the Columbus Police Department. On Monday, October 6th at 8:16 pm patrol officers located the stolen car and the two young persons at a local hotel. Both young offenders were arrested and have been charged with Possession of Stolen Property and Theft of a Credit Card. They will appear in bail court today.

YOUTH ARRESTED
On October 6th shortly before 11:00 pm a 14-year-old young person was observed entering parked cars on Summit Ave. The youth stole or attempted to steal several items from the cars in the area. Police officers attended at the scene and arrested the youth. A police records check revealed the young person was wanted for the theft of a bicycle that occurred on September 3rd. The accused used bolt cutters to cut the lock off this bike and steal it. Police have charged the youth with three counts of Theft, Possession of House Breaking Tools and Trespassing at Night. The accused will appear in bail court today.

CAR TAKEN WITHOUT PERMISSION
Patrol officers charged a 16-year-old young person last evening with Taking a Motor Vehicle without Consent. The youth had taken a car that belonged to a female that he knew with out her permission. When the accused returned the vehicle it had been damaged. The youth will appear in court in mid November.

PEPPER SPRAY INCIDENT
At approximately 8:00 pm Gerald Taylor age 41 of 94 Allard Street #106 was involved in a verbal argument with another adult male at his residence. The argument escalated to a window being broken and doors being kicked. At some point in the disturbance, Taylor discharged pepper spray in the apartment building hallway. This discharged caused a partial evacuation of the building. At 9:30 pm patrol officers arrested and charged the accused with Mischief in Relation to Property. He will appear in court on November
