Two Shoplifting Arrests
Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 52 year-old Rene Lamarche of 125 Gore Street yesterday at 3 pm at Rome’s Independent Grocers on Great Northern Road after he allegedly attended at the store and stole six steaks from the store. He was apprehended by store security and held for police. He has been charged with one count of possession of stolen property and one count of theft under $5,000 and is to appear in court on the 22nd of November.

24 year-old Joshua Bergamin of 56 Willow Avenue (main floor) was arrested by officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service yesterday afternoon at Zellers in the Station Mall after he allegedly attended at the store and stole 17 video games. He was apprehended by store security and held for police. He was charged with one count of theft under $5,000 and is to appear in court on the 22nd of November.

Mail Arrested on Outstanding Warrant
30 year-old Mark Lucio of #7-73 Northern Avenue was arrested on an outstanding warrant by officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service yesterday morning at the court house and charged with one count of fail to appear for prints. He is to appear in court on the 22nd of November.

Break and Enter
Three storage buildings of a property in the 800 block of Old Goulais Bay Road were broken into over the past weekend. Two 5-gallong gas cans were reported stolen.

Theft Reports
• A purse was stolen from a shopping cart at the Metro Food Store on Northern Avenue yesterday at approximately 3:33 pm. The suspect is a female in her 20’s with blonde hair in a ponytail, a red sweatshirt with a black top underneath, burgundy track pants with ‘Aeropostale’on the back.
• A front licence plate was stolen from a vehicle parked in the 800 block of Queen Street East.
• A handicapped permit was stolen from a vehicle parked on Second Line West near Turner Avenue.

Vehicle Smash and Grabs
Vehicles were broken into in a parking lot of a business on Great Northern Road near Second Line East, a school parking lot in the central part of the city and a parking lot in the 200 block of Northern Avenue. Two purses and one wallet were reported stolen.

Mischief Reports
A large amount of obscene graffiti was spray painted on the roadway of Wilson Street yesterday afternoon between 1:30 am and 1:00 pm.

This has been the third reported incident involving spray painting in the past two weeks. There were six youths, most too young to be charged criminally, dealt with by police last week for spray painting a wall area and playground equipment at Etienne Brule Public School and a wall at the Greco Pool building. Two of the youths, aged 12 and 13 were dealt with under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. In a separate incident a car was spray painted.

With Devil’s Night and Halloween fast approaching the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would Like to Remind the Public of the following Reminder:

For many pranksters, spray painting/graffiti, egg throwing and any other incidents of mischief involving pumpkins or other Halloween decorations being damaged are occurrences that the Police often receive several reports about on and around October 30th. These pranks are considered as criminal offences, they will be investigated and charges could be laid.
