Shooting in The West End On 16 October 2006 at approximately 7:50 pm officers of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service attended at a west end residence after receiving a 911 call regarding a disturbance.

On 16 October 2006 at approximately 7:50 pm officers of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service attended at a west end residence after receiving a 911 call regarding a disturbance. Upon arrival officers found that four males had entered the residence and confronted the four occupants. During the confrontation a 30-year-old male received a gunshot wound to his torso area. The four assailants then fled the scene. The male shooting victim was brought by ambulance to the Sault Area Hospital for treatment of his injuries. Anyone with any information on this incident is asked to contact the City Police at 949-6300 or Crime Stoppers at 942-7867 or 1-800-222-TIPS. Officers from Patrol Services and Investigation Services are continuing their investigation into this incident. No further details are being released at this time.

Two Males Charged with Assault

1) An 18-year old male will appear in bail court this morning after being arrested yesterday afternoon and charged with one count of assault. It is alleged that in the early morning hours of the 16th of October the accused and his girlfriend got into a verbal argument that escalated. It is alleged that the male slapped the victim and also choked her. The victim did not require medical treatment at the time.

2) A 29-year old male was arrested just after 3 am this morning and charged with one count of assault and one count of breach of a release order. It is alleged that on the 14th of October the accused and his common law wife got into a verbal argument in their east end residence. It is alleged that the accused punched the victim in the face. At the time of the offence the accused was on a release document with conditions not to molest, harass or annoy the victim. The accused will appear in bail court this morning.

City Police received a number of break and enter reports in the last 24-hour period:

1) Sometime between the 13th and the 16th of October a residence on Estelle Street was entered. It is unknown at this time if anything was taken.

2) On the 16th of October between 12 noon and 3 pm a home on Louise Avenue was entered. A quantity of jewellery was taken in the break in.

3) Just before 6 am there was an attempt break and enter to Smack Daddy’s Two on Wallace Terrace, entry was not gained.

There were two theft from vehicles reported yesterday

CD’s were both taken from vehicle on Brown Street and Albert Street West.
