Two People to Appear in Bail Court Today
1) A 21-year old male was arrested on the 8th of October in the early morning hours after officers attended at a downtown residence for a domestic dispute. It is alleged that the accused assaulted his common-law girlfriend
by pushing her into a table. It is also alleged that the accused pulled the phone out of the wall, broke a number of beer bottles in the residence and smashed holes in the wall. At the time of the dispute the accused was on probation with conditions The accused was charged with one count of assault, one count of mischief under $5000 and four counts of breach of probation.
2) A 27-year old male was arrested on the 9th of October and charged with one count of assault. It is alleged that in the early morning hours the accused and his girlfriend got into an argument in the downtown area and continued to their downtown residence. It is alleged that the accused assaulted the victim by pushing her to the ground, slamming a door on her and kicking in the leg.
Impaired Driving
On the 6th of October just after 11 pm City Police officers from Patrol Services were stopped at the intersection of Grand Street and Northern Avenue. A van approached the intersection eastbound on Northern Avenue at a high rate of speed as the light for the van was turning yellow. It is alleged that the van went through the red light and continued eastbound. Officers followed the van and noted that it was swerving on the road. When officers stopped the vehicle on Willow Avenue they noted that the driver showed signs of impairment. The accused was arrested. A search of the accused located a small amount of marijuana as well. 29-year old Richard Nanchin of 9-244 Queen Street East has been charged with one count of impaired driving, one count of fail to provide a breath sample and one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance. He will appear in court on November 13th.
Youth Arrested for Break & Enter
A 13-year old youth was arrested on the 8th of October and charged with two counts of break and enter with intent, one count of possession of property obtained by crime and one count of breach of a release document. It is alleged that the accused broke into a storage area of a west end address but was apprehend by the owners. Nothing was taken. It is further alleged that the male also had a bicycle that had been stolen. The youth will appear in court on November 14th.
Youth Charged with Having Stolen Bicycle
A 14-year old male and a 16-year old male were both arrested over the weekend after they were found to be in possession of a stolen bicycle. It is alleged that on the 8th of October the youths had a bicycle that had been stolen from a residence on Wayne Court. As a result of this the 14-year old youth was charged with one count of possession of property obtained by crime and one count of breach of probation under the Youth Criminal Justice Act and will appear in court on November 14th. The 16-year old youth was also charged with one count of possession of property obtained by crime in relation to the bicycle as well. It is further alleged that the 16-year old youth stole a purse from inside a vehicle on Wayne Court and scratched the vehicle at the same time. The purse was later recovered. The 16-year old youth was further charged with a second count of possession of property obtained by crime, one count of mischief and one count of theft under $5,000. He will appear in court on December 5th.
Three Motor Vehicle Collisions with Injuries over the Weekend
1) On the 6th of October at approximately 4:40 pm officers from Traffic Services attended in the 500 block of Great Northern Avenue for a motor vehicle collision that sent 4 persons to the hospital. A van operated by a 77-year old female was southbound on Great Northern Road had stopped for a red light. A vehicle operated by a 33-year old female was also traveling southbound on Great Northern Road and collided with the rear of the van. Family members took the 77-year old female to Sault Area Hospital and three of the passengers from the vehicle operated by the 33-year old female were taken to the hospital by ambulance. All injuries were non-life threatening. Both vehicles were severely damaged. The 33-year old driver has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario with one count of careless driving.
2) On the 6th of October just before 7 pm City Police again attended on Great Northern Road for a motor vehicle collision with injuries. A 42-year old male was riding his bicycle northbound on the sidewalk on Great Northern Road. A 44-year old male pulled out of a civic address in the 200 block and was unable to see the bicyclist due to trees in the area. The bike and pickup truck collided. The cyclist was taken to the Sault Area Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Both the car and bike received light damage. The investigation is continuing.
3) On the 7th of October a car operated by an 84-year old male was traveling southbound on Peoples Road and proceeded to turn left on a green arrow onto Second Line East. A car operated by a 26-year old male was northbound on Peoples Road and proceeded into the intersection on the red light and struck the other car. The passenger in the car operated by the 26-year old male was taken by ambulance to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The 26-year old driver has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario with one count of red light-proceed before green.
City Police received a number of break and enter reports over the long weekend:
1) A residence on North Street was entered between midnight and 1:30 am on the 7th of October. It is unknown at this time what was taken.
2) On the 6th of October between 5 pm and 10 pm a home on Bush Street was entered and a Play Station 2 and games were taken.
3) Between the 6th of October at 10:30 pm and the 7th of October at 1:30 am a home on St. Andrews Terrace was entered. A purse, vehicle keys and jewellery were taken.
4) A residence on Creery Avenue was reported being broken into on the 8th of October. It is unknown if anything was taken as this time.
5) On the 8th of October a homeowner on Welcome Avenue reported a break and enter. Items taken include an X-box, an Ipod and a computer.
6) On the 9th of October an annex at H.M. Robbins School on Second Line West was broken into and it is unknown what was taken.
7) On the 9th of October just after 1:20 am Home Depot was broken into. It is believed that two males in a brownish pickup truck broke into the store and stole an air compressor.
8) A home on Upton Road was broken into between 9 am on the 7th of October and 11 am on the 9th of October. Thieves obtained a small amount of money.
9) Last evening a home was reported broken into on Albion Street but it is unknown at this time what was taken.
