During Crime Prevention Week the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service will be providing a daily crime prevention tip to help keep you and your family safe.

Protect your children. Remind your children to tell you where they are at all times. Tell them, their schools, their daycare providers, etc., where you can reached in the event of an emergency. Teach and show your children were to go when in a store or mall, such as a cashier or an information booth, in the event they are separated from you. If your children are home alone, teach them not to answer the door and not to tell anyone they are home alone. Spent some time making pretend phone calls with them so that they learn how not to inadvertently tell someone they are alone. In the event that you cannot pick up your child and are having someone else pick them up, go over a pre-arranged code word with your child so that they know the person who says they are picking them up is legitimate.


Domestic Assault

A 24-year old male will appear in bail court this morning. Officers attended at a west end residence just after 9 pm last night for a domestic assault. It is alleged that on the 30th of October the accused kicked his common law wife in the head and legs as well as hitting her in the head area. It is further alleged the on the 7th of November the accused threw a chair at the victim and also spit in her face. The accused fled the scene but just after 3 am this morning he turned himself into City Police. The male has been charged with 2 counts of assault.

Youth Failed to abide by Curfew

A 16-year old youth will appear in bail court this morning after being arrested at 2:30 am this morning. The accused was on release conditions with a curfew of 9 pm. The youth’s mother notified Police that the youth had failed to abide by the curfew. Officers located the accused in the hill area just after 2:30 am. The youth has been charged with one count of breach of a release order.

Youth Fails To Appear for Finger Prints

Patrol officers arrested 18-year old Cody McElrea of 54 Water Crescent, Goulais River yesterday morning. The accused was wanted on a warrant for one count of failing to appear for a fingerprints. It is alleged that the accused failed to attend at the City Police Station on October 25th to be fingerprinted in relation to a charge of possession of a controlled drug or substance from earlier this fall. The accused will appear in court on December 12th.

Theft of Cable

City Police are investigating the theft of $11,000 worth of copper cable from Expert Tech located at 178 Drive In Road. The theft occurred sometime between September 20th and November 7th. If you know who is responsible for this theft, contact Crime Stoppers at 942-7867 or 1-800-222-TIPS. If your information leads to an arrest you could be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.

Break and Enter

City Police had one report of a break and enter yesterday. Sometime between 8:30 am and 4 pm thieves broke into a home in the 100 block of The Drive. Some change, an X-Box and a game for it were taken.
