Possession of Drugs, Stolen Property, Ammunition and Breach

29-year old Paul Whalen of 2-331 Douglas Street will appear in bail court this morning. Just before 3 am this morning officers from Patrol Services, Emergency Services Unit and the Street Team stopped a vehicle on Great Northern Road after receiving information that Paul Whalen was in the vehicle and that he was in possibly in possession of a firearm. When officers searched the accused they located .5 grams of cocaine and 10 esctasy tablets. The estimated street value of the narcotics is $300. Officers also searched a local hotel room that the accused had been in just prior to the vehicle stop and they located a stolen laptop computer and a safe box which contained a large amount of cash, a scale, jewellery, a cell phone and a 20 gauge round of ammunition. No firearms were located in this incident. Whalen has been charged with two counts of possession of a controlled drug or substance, one count of possession of property obtained by crime, one count of breach of probation and one count of possession of ammunition while on a court impose order prohibiting the possession of ammunition.

Mischief

39-year old Timothy Scholtyssen of 1525 Peoples Road was arrested just after 6 am yesterday morning and charged with one count of mischief –interrupting the lawful enjoyment of property. It is alleged that earlier in the morning officers had attended at the residence and charged the accused under the City By-law regarding the loud noise from his stereo and the accused was warned. Just before 6 am officers again were called to the address regarding the loud stereo. Officers placed the accused under arrest for mischief and it is alleged that the accused struggled with the officers before being taken into custody. The accused will appear in court on January 8th, 2007.

Arson & Breach

25-year old Shasta McCauley of 40-724 Great Northern Road was arrested yesterday and charged with one count of arson by negligence and one count of breach of a court order. It is alleged that in the early morning hours of May 29th Fire Services responded to a residence on Chambers Avenue for a house fire. The fire was extinguished but a large amount of butane containers were present in the residence. Officers from Investigation Services and the Fire Inspectors Section of the Fire Services worked jointly on the investigation. It is alleged that the accused had in her possession a cannabis resin extracting device which utilized butane. It is alleged that this device leaked the butane, which contributed to the spread of a fire that caused damage to a home. No one was hurt in the fire and there was significant damage. It is further alleged that the accused failed to notify her change of address which was a term of release on a court order. The accused will appear in court on January 8th.

Theft Under $5000

45-year old Victor Cunningham of 332 Wellington Street East was arrested yesterday afternoon and charged with one count of theft under $5,000. It is alleged that the accused stole a Columbia jacket valued at $200 from Sears in the Station Mall. The accused left the store without paying for the merchandise. The accused was arrested and charged with one count of theft under $5,000. He will appear in court on January 8th, 2007.

Lock City Dairy Truck Stolen

City Police are investigation a theft of a delivery truck that was reported yesterday afternoon. A Lock City Dairy delivery truck with the licence plate of IS6521LH was taken from the TMS Truck Centre on Great Northern Road where the vehicle had been in for repairs. City Police received three reports of break and enters in the last 24-hour period:

1) Sometime between the 18th of November at 5 pm and the 20th of November at 8 am the compound belonging to The Tire People on Drive In Road was entered. Thieves stole approximately 25 transport tires with an estimated value of $25,000. 2) Mann Florist was broken into between 3 pm on the 19th of November and 8:50 am on the 20th of November. Computer monitors were taken and a fire extinguisher had been discharged in the store as well.

3) Yesterday afternoon a homeowner on Pageant Drive pulled into their driveway just before 3:30 am and observed a number of teenage kids running from the home. When she entered the residence she found that food had been eaten, the stove had been used and that jewellery was missing from the residence. Other items were also taken and the homeowner is working on a detailed property list for the police. Four of the kids were on foot and several were on bikes. Some had dark clothing on, one had a dark jacket and one had a tan jacket. The investigation is continuing.
