Large Black Bear Dispatched behind Partridge Court Residence

On the 31st of October at 9:08 pm officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service were dispatched to a report of a large black bear in a backyard of a residence in the 1000 block of Lake Street. Officers attended in the area and discovered that the bear had wondered into the backyard of a residence on Partridge Court.

When officers approached the bear near the bush line ravine area behind the residence, the bear turned at them in an aggressive manner and was dispatched at that time.

Officers believe it to be the same bear that they have received numerous calls about in the residential areas of the P-Patch over the past several weeks.

Female Arrested for Theft

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 20 year-old Samantha Tulloch of 276 St. James Street on the 31st of October at 1:30 pm at Zellers in the Station Mall and charged with one count of theft under $5,000. It is alleged that on the 31st of October the accused attended at Zellers took some items that she had not paid for and attempted to refund them. Store Security intervened and arrested the accused for fraud.

Police attended and learned that the accused had successfully returned some stolen items from the store for a refund the day prior. She was subsequently charged with one count of theft under $5,000 and is to appear in court on the 5th of December.

Female Youth Arrested on Outstanding Warrant

Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested a 17 year-old female youth on an outstanding warrant on the 31st of October at 1:51 pm at the police station and charged her with one count of fail to appear court. It is alleged that the youth failed to appear in court on the 25th of October.

Reminder to Public
No Parking on City Streets By-Law in Effect 1st of November – 31st of March, 2012


The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is reminding motorists that the no parking of vehicles on city streets between midnight and 6 am by-law is now in effect.

The by-law will run from November 1st 2011 through to midnight on March 31st, 2012. Persons who disobey this by-law will receive a $15 fine and may have their vehicle towed. If your vehicle is towed, you then have the additional cost of the towing and storage fees at the compound. Even when there is not snow, the by-law is in effect.

Often the weather can change from what was forecasted and when this occurs officers from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service are kept busy tagging and towing cars to assist the City Board of Works crews in snow removal. So please obey the by-law and don’t park on the streets between midnight and 6 am.

Theft Reports

• An Apple iPod Nano and a cell phone were reported stolen form a locker room at a local high school yesterday.

• Several vehicles on Glenwood Avenue were reported entered. A wallet and identification was reported.

Mischief Reports

• Vehicles were reported vandalized on Millcreek Drive and John Street.

• Halloween Decorations were vandalized on Anna Street.
