Wardlaw Robber Identified

Just after 4 am this morning officers from Patrol Services arrested 46-year old Charles Ross Hayden of no fixed address in relation to the robbery that occurred earlier in the morning at Wardlaw Fuels located at 207 Wellington Street West. It is alleged that the accused attended in the store just after 1:30 am and showed the clerk showed the handle of what appeared to be a firearm. The clerk handed over an undisclosed amount of cash and a quantity of cigarettes. The male then fled the store on foot. Police Dog Tazer and his handler assisted patrol officers as well. The accused was located in a downtown address and was taken into custody without incident. Officers from Investigation Services are continuing to work on this matter. Mr. Hayden has been charged with one count of robbery-use a firearm, one count of disguise with intent-face masked, one count of possession of a weapon for the purpose dangerous to public, one count of use a firearm while committing the offence of robbery and one count of possession of a firearm contrary to an order prohibiting such possession. The accused will appear in bail court at 10 am on May 24th.

Wardlaw Fuels Robbery

Just after 1:30 am this morning a lone male entered Wardlaw Fuels and allegedly robbed the store. The suspect fled the store with an undisclosed amount of cash and a quantity of cigarettes. One male has been taken into custody and the investigation is continuing. The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Canine Unit, specifically Tazer, assisted in the apprehension of the suspect. Further details regarding the suspect will be released later today.

Two Arrested For Impaired Driving

1) On the 20th of May around 7:40 pm a citizen reported an impaired driver on Northern Avenue in the area of the Pee Wee Arena and the midway. Officers observed the car traveling northbound on Great Northern Road and noted that the vehicle was weaving across three lanes of traffic. The car was stopped on Great Northern Road north of Second Line East. 38-year old Tammy-Lynn Moore of 506 Wellington Street West had been charged with one count of impaired driving and one count of consume over the legal limit. She will appear in court on June 26th.

2) On the 21st of May just before 1:30 am a citizen called to report a car driving erratically southbound on Great Northern Road. It is alleged that the driver was weaving while driving at a high rate of speed. Officers observed the car on Great Northern Road and stopped the vehicle in the area of Pim Street and Wemyss Street. 49-year old Carolyn Proulx of 4-439 Church Street has been charged with one count of consume over the legal limit and one count of impaired driving. She will appear in court on June 26th.

Three Arrested For Mischief

1) 45-year old Perry Kerns of 107 Forest Avenue was charged with one count of mischief on the 20th of May. It is alleged that between June 2002 and May 2006 the accused was responsible for a number of complaints of his dogs barking outside of his residence. The accused will appear in court on June 26th.

2) 31-year old Jeffrey Hill of 37 Princeton Drive was charged with one count of mischief on the 20th of May. It is alleged that on that date around 4:30 am the accused threw a rock through the front glass door of the Masonic Temple located at 379 Albert Street East. Damage is estimated at approximately $300. The accused will appear in court on June 26th.

3) 25-year old Loretta Carey of 58 James Street was charged on the 22nd of May with one count of mischief. It is alleged that the accused threw rocks at the passenger window of a vehicle, owned by someone known to the accused. It is alleged that the accused broke a window valued at approximately $200. The accused will appear in court on June 26th.

Shoplifting At Wal Mart

On the 21st of May City Police attended at the Wal Mart Store located at 445 Great Northern Road for a shoplifter. It is alleged that 54-yer old James Marini of 336 Sixth Avenue attempted to leave the store with just under $160 worth of merchandise including a pair of cowboy boots and some tools. The accused was apprehended by store security and turned over to City Police. Mr. Marini has been charged with one count of theft under $5,000 and will appear in court on June 26th.

23 Yr Old Female Arrested At Border For Outstanding Warrants

23-year old Sarah Elliott of 187 Anna Street was arrested on the 21st of May in relation to an assault from December of 2005. It is alleged that the accused attempted to cross into the United States on the 21st of May around 11 pm. She was denied entry into the States because of an outstanding arrest warrant from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service. The accused was arrested at Canada Customs and turned over to City Police. It is alleged that on the 5th of December the accused assaulted an adult female. The accused was wanted on a warrant for one count of assault and one count of theft under $5,000. The accused will appear in court on June 26th.

Two Charged With Assault

1) A 64-year old male was arrested and charged on the 19th of May with one count of assault. It is alleged that the accused and his common-law wife got into a verbal argument that escalated to the point where the male slapped the female in the face. The accused has been charged with one count of assault and will appear in court on June 28th. The incident occurred in the couple’s downtown residence.

2) 41-year old Bernard Cadreau of 506-588 Albert Street West was arrested and charged with one count of assault on the 19th of May. It is alleged that on the 19th of May the accused assaulted a City Transit bus driver. It is alleged that when the driver asked for payment for the ride the accused grabbed the driver by the throat. The accused will appear in court on June 19th.

Four Break & Enters Over Long Weekend

City Police received a number of break and enter calls over the long weekend. They include the following:

1) Between the 10th and the 18th of May the Community Family and Mediation Centre located at Suite 18-123 March Street was entered. Items stolen include a Sony video camera, 9 Labatts cooler bags, and a quantity of blank CD’s.

2) On the 22nd of May just after 3 am MicroAge Computer Centres was broken into. Thieves made off with 4 laptops and a small undisclosed amount of money was also taken.

3) On the 22nd of May between 2 pm and 6 pm a home in the 300 block of Sussex Road was entered. Items taken include jewellery, an X-box, a DVD player and movies.

4) On the 22nd of May a homeowner in the 400 block of Cumberland Avenue had their home broken into. DVD’s, clothing and jewellery were taken. A male suspect between 17 to 19 years of age was seen in the area. The suspect was wearing jeans, a white shirt and a black ball cap. He had short hair, was approximately 5’10” tall and about 140 pounds.
