Earlier release:

On 20 May 2013 at approximately 5:30 p.m., officers were called to a residence on Biggings Avenue for a home invasion robbery.  Three unknown males entered the residence through an unlocked front door.  Two of the three males had their faces covered in masks, and they were all dressed in black clothing.  They were dressed in baggy clothes including dark baggy jeans, hoodies, running shoes, and they were all within the 20 years of age range.  They ranged in height from 5'8 to 6'0.  Once inside the residence, the homeowners were confronted, and one resident became engaged in a physical altercation with the two masked males near the front entrance of the residence.  The second resident was struck over the head and face area numerous times with some sort of pipe or a crowbar, receiving facial and head injuries.

After assaulting the residents and robbing them of an undisclosed amount of money, the suspects fled on foot towards the Woodward Avenue area.  The victims were transported to hospital with non life threatening injuries. This does not appear to be a random incident.  The investigation is currently ongoing.

On 20 May 2013 at approximately 6:00 p.m., officers were called to a residence at Gehrig Drive regarding blasting caps located in a family members shed while cleaning it out.  They had been transported home in the trunk of a vehicle.  Attending officers consulted with the Explosives Detonation Unit to confirm that they were potentially unstable volatile munitions, unsafely stored and a danger to the public (sitting in a vehicle over a gas tank).

The Explosives Detonation Unit was called out, retrieved the blasting caps (they were in a small box and able to be safely contained) and transported them to Essar Steel Algoma for successful detonation. The origin of the explosives is unknown.

Officers attended an address on Frontenac St at approximately 8:00 p.m. for a bear sitting on the front step of the residence eating garbage.  This appears to be another case of an urbanized bear as it was clearly unafraid of the officers who tried to move it along.
