More Charges Laid In Fatal Crash
Sault Ste Marie OPP have laid three more criminal charges against the twenty nine year old woman accused in the fatal crash that took the life of Sault Ste Marie City Police Constable Donald Doucet.
On Sunday 14 May 2006 at about 2:45 a.m. Cst. Doucet, of the Sault Ste Marie City Police, was a passenger in a police car that was struck by a mini van. Cst Douect died of his injures sustained in the crash.
Late Sunday night Sault Ste Marie OPP laid one charge of Impaired Driving against twenty nine year old Jeanette Leah NIGANOBE, of the Batchewana First Nation. This morning police have laid three additional charges against Ms. Niganobe. She is now charged with Impaired Driving Causing Death, Impaired Driving Causing Bodily Harm and Driving with a Blood Alcohol Level Exceeding .08. Ms. Niganobe will have a bail hearing this morning in Sault Ste Marie.
The driver of the Sault Ste Marie City Police car has been identified as thirty five year old Constable William Freeman of the Sault Ste Marie City Police Service. Cst. Freeman has been an officer with the Sault Ste Marie City Police for eight years. Cst Freeman was treated for non-life threatening injuries and released from hospital.
Members of the investigative team will meet with the Crown Attorney’s office to review the case. It is expected that further charges will be laid as the investigation progresses.
The Sault Ste Marie City Police asked the OPP to conduct the investigation surrounding the collision. Members of several different investigative units of the OPP spend most of the day at the crash site. The investigation is still ongoing.
Assault Charges
41-year-old David Robert Roach of 436 Second Line West has been charged with an assault that dates back to April of 2004. It is alleged that on the 2nd of April 2004, the accused David Roach assaulted a male known to him at 306 Korah Road, also known as the Roosevelt Hotel. It is believed that the accused tackled the other male then threatened to cause him bodily harm. It is not known what provoked this assault. The victim in this assault suffered injuries to his back. David Robert Roach has been charged with 1 count of Assault and 1 count of Threatening Death. He is to appear in court on June 26th.
City Police arrested a 20-year-old female yesterday at the Canadian Tire Gas Bar, in regards to an incident which occurred on the 5th of May. It is believed that the accused assaulted a female known to her on the 5th of May at approximately 2:15am after a verbal argument at the Canadian Motor Hotel. The victim suffered minor injuries to her neck, which did not require medical attention. Charged with 1 count of Assault is 20-year-old Katherine Elizabeth Fenn of 57 Turmaine Road, Goulais River Ontario. She is to appear in court on the 19th of June.
Mischief
A 16-year-old youth has been charged with 1 count of Mischief under $5000 after an incident that occurred at the youth’s residence. It is believed that at approximately10: 30pm last evening, the 16-year-old became upset with the house rules and caused damage to a wall and chair by throwing the chair up against the wall. Police were called to the West End residence but the youth had already left. This young person was found a short time later on Lloyd Street and was arrested. The youth who cannot be named has been charged and will appear in court on the 27th of June.
Further Charges Laid Against Man Charged With Assault In 2005

A 46-year-old male will appear in bail court this morning. He has been charged with 1 count of Aggravated Assault. It is alleged that the accused assaulted his infant child between August 11th and October 26th. Officers from the Investigation Services were notified and are continuing to work on this investigation. The infant remains in hospital care in serious condition. The names of the accused persons are not being released to protect the identity of the victim.
On the 15th of May 2006, after further investigation, officers from The Investigation Services arrested the above-mentioned male with additional charges. The 47-year-old male has been charged with 1 count of Failing to Provide the Necessities of Life and 1 count of Criminal Negligence Causing Bodily Harm. The accused will appear in bail court this morning. The name of the accused is not being released to protect the identity of the victim.
