TOO YOUNG TO CHARGE
Yesterday at approximately 2:10 am the accused, a 10-year-old male and a 14-year-old female did commit the offence of theft by entering numerous motor vehicles in the parking lot to the rear of 803 Queen Street East.
Police Officers observed the thieves running away from the rear of the Old Boston's Car Lot on Queen Street. When they arrested the young male he was in possession of items from several vehicles. Due to the age of the male accused, he was placed under arrest but not charged under the Criminal Code of Canada.
The youth was returned to his residence and parents. The 14-year-old female was charged with Theft under $5,000.00 and will appear in court at the end of April.
MAN ARRESTED FOR FAILING TO APPEAR
On the 12th of March 2003, a first instance warrant was issued for the accused, James Thomas Gilbert, age 46 of 680 Portage Lane #2, for failing to attend court.
A bench warrant was also issued on that date by the court for outstanding charges of possession of a controlled drug. Gilbert turned himself in yesterday to police where he was arrested and the warrants were executed. He will attend in court on April 28th.
MAN CHARGED WITH ASSAULTING YOUNG GIRL
On the Sunday afternoon, Gary Ferguson, age 52 of 550 Parliament Street allegedly asked a kindergarten-aged female to come to his house to see some icicles.
Ferguson then took the victim into his apartment where he allegedly put his hand down the front of her pants and touched her groin area. The young child was able to flee the building and went home and disclosed the assault to her mother.
Detectives from the Investigation Services Section commenced an investigation into the incident and yesterday they executed a Criminal Code Search Warrant at the accused's residence.
At 5:06 pm yesterday, the accused turned himself in at the Sault Ste. Marie Police Services Building where he was arrested and charged with Sexual Assault and Sexual Interference. He will appear in bail court today.
SHOPLIFTER CAUGHT
Yesterday the accused, a 15-year-old male, committed the offence of theft under $5000 by stealing a magnesium fire starter from the Canadian Tire Store. He was observed, followed and arrested by store security for the theft. Police officers were called at 7:09 pm and charged the youth with Theft under $ 5,000.00. He will appear in court in mid April.
YOUNG DRUNK ARRESTED
Yesterday at 9:30pm, at a building on Brock Street, the accused, a 17-year-old male was found very intoxicated in the parking lot. He was checked on the police records system and found to be on a probation order with a curfew of 9pm -6am and to keep the peace and be good.
Police officers arrested the accused. He was taken to the hospital for his own safety. He has been charged with two counts of Breach of Probation and will appear in court in mid April.
CRIMINAL HARASSMENT
This morning at 12:31, patrol officers arrested and charged a 32-year-old male of no fixed address with criminal harassment. The accused repeatedly called the 27-year-old female victim after being cautioned not to communicate with her.
The male called the victim at two separate residences, over twenty times on one day. This was in breach of his probation order and a Family Law Act Restraining order. He will appear in bail court today.
BREAKING WINDOWS AT THE DUNN
Today at 1:16 am, the accused Hugh Tate, age 19 of 117 Greenview Lane and co-accused Noah Pine age 18 of 138 Sutton Place allegedly committed the offence of mischief by throwing beer bottles at Sir James Dunn High School on Wellington Street East.
The beer bottles broke three windows on the east side of the school. The accused then used a garbage can to break two more windows on the south side of the school. Both Tate and Pine were arrested and charged with Mischief. Tate was also charged with two counts of Breach of Probation. They will both appear in bail court today.
DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE
At 4:05 am today, police officers were called to a Cathcart Street home for a domestic-type disturbance, where a 42-year-old male had taken an axe to the door of the home and forced his way in.
Officers learned that he had gone out to celebrate his birthday with the 39-year-old female resident of the home. After celebrating, the two returned to the garage of the Cathcart Street residence where the male was living.
Once in the garage, an argument ensued and the male kicked the female out of the garage. She then left and went into the home. The male returned to the home and used an axe to break the door and gain entry.
Once inside he took the telephones and went back to the garage. No one was injured in the incident. Police Officers arrested and charged him with Mischief under $5,000.00. He will appear in bail court today.
BREAK & ENTERS
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service investigated two break and enters yesterday. At 9:14 am, officers went to Ideal Concept and Gifts at 724 Queen Street East. It appears that sometime overnight thieves forced open a rear door to gain entry to the business and once inside stole several items, including sterling silver watches and rings.
At 2:39 pm, police officers were called to All North Truck Centre on Great Northern Road where sometime over the weekend thieves broke into the garage and stole a quantity of tools, including an acetylene torch, an auto igniter, a battery loader tester, a cut off saw and other items.
