DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE Yesterday at approximately 8:30 am, patrol officers were called to a couple's home for a domestic disturbance involving a 48-year-old male and his wife.

Yesterday at approximately 8:30 am, patrol officers were called to a couple's home for a domestic disturbance involving a 48-year-old male and his wife. Officers were met at the door by the male who informed them everything was fine and that the female was unavailable to speak with them.

Officers waited to speak with the victim and noted her to have a black left eye that was very watery and red. At 8:50 am the male was arrested for Assault. He will appear in court on July 28th.


MAN ASSAULTS WIFE
On June 19, at approximately 10:30 pm, a 66-year-old male assaulted his wife by grabbing her on the inside of both arms near the elbow area, leaving visible bruises. This occurred at their residence.

Yesterday at 11:09 am, the male went to the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Building, where patrol officers arrested him for Assault. He will appear in court on July 28th.


INSURANCE FRAUD
On or about the 20th of March 2002, Tricia Roffey, age 26 of 87 Adrian Drive rented a computer system and a digital camera valued at over $800.00 from a local merchant.

Allegedly Roffey claimed the computer and camera were destroyed in a minor house fire on the 30th of December 2002, and subsequently disposed of them. A claim was made to the renter/owner of the property under a liability waiver provision by the accused.

The items were never destroyed or purchased and all loss claims were false. Yesterday at 12:00 pm, detectives from the Fraud Unit of the Investigation Services Section arrested and charged the accused with Fraud. She will appear in court on July 28th.


ACCUSED OF SHOPLIFTING
Yesterday at 8:00 pm, Heather Rivers, age 29 of 171 Breton Road allegedly stole approximately one dozen steaks from the A&P on Northern Avenue, valued at over $150.00.

Patrol officers learned that the female was at a residence on Henrietta Street and when they went there, they found her hiding in the bushes behind the home. At 9:06 pm she was arrested and charged with Theft under $5,000.00. Patrol officers also executed three arrest warrants on Rivers for two counts of Theft under $5,000.00 and for Failing To Appear in Court. She will appear in bail court today.


IMPAIRED CHARGE LAID IN ACCIDENT
At 4:02 am this morning, Patrick Toma, age 28 of 82 Adrian Drive was driving his 1998 Ford Windstar van north on Plaintree Drive. The Toma vehicle veered across the roadway, hit the curb and struck a light pole. The van received extensive damage to it?s left front corner. Toma reversed the van onto the roadway and drove a short distance away on three wheels.

Patrol Officers located the van by following a debris trail it was leaving on the roadway. Officers located Toma and female passenger walking away from the van. The female, Dawn Day age 35 of Sault Ste. Marie received minor injuries in the collision and was taken to hospital for treatment by patrol officers. The van was severely damaged in the collision.

Toma was arrested and charged with Driving over .08 and Impaired Driving Causing Bodily Harm. Toma will appear in court on July 28th.


BREAK AND ENTERS
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service investigated two break and enters yesterday. At 8:37 am a homeowner on Tadcaster Place advised police that thieves broke into his garage and stole a Mastercraft mitre saw and a drill bit set.

Shortly after 7:00 pm a resident of Pim Street advised police that while he was outside working in the yard, thieves entered his residence and stole a small quantity of jewellery.
