DRUG BUST
Yesterday morning 3 men from Alberta had the opportunity to meet the City’s finest, but they may not have been too impressed with the meeting. Patrol officers stopped a vehicle in the city’s east end, and after speaking to the driver and passengers, the officers noted that there was a strong odour of narcotics.
Subsequently the patrol officers, with assistance from the Joint Forces Drug Unit, arrested and charged each male with one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance. The males each had marijuana in the amount of 26-30 grams with a street value of approximately $500 each. They were released on recognizance’s, with monetary deposits, and will appear in court on July 26th.
Charged were David Mullen, age 23, and, Scott Brown, age 24 both of Canmore, Alberta; and Roy Corbett, age 22 of Calgary, Alberta.
BREAK & ENTER
A 16-year-old young person will appear in court on July 27 after being charged with one count of theft under $5,000, one count of trespassing at night and one count of possession of housebreaking tools.
City police responded to an address in the 100 block of Gladstone Avenue after a homeowner caught the young person in his vehicle. The youth was in the process of removing a CD player when apprehended.
He was immediately turned over to the police. In addition, the youth also had a miniature flashlight, which had been used in the commission of the offence.
ACCIDENT SENDS ONE TO HOSPITAL
A single vehicle motor accident on Leigh’s Bay Road yesterday, shortly before 2 pm, sent the 17-year-old driver to the hospital with minor injuries.
The driver hit a pothole in the road while travelling southbound on Leigh’s Bay Road, lost control of the car, crossed the road, skidded back onto the road by overcorrecting, went into the ditch and came to a stop after rolling once. The vehicle was demolished in the accident. No charges were laid.
ONE INJURY IN ACCIDENT
A 2-vehicle collision on Korah Road at the Market Mall entrance resulted in one person being taken to the hospital by ambulance yesterday at 4:30.
It is alleged that 79-year-old Euginio Marandola of 152 Prentice Avenue pulled out of the Market Mall and struck a southbound vehicle being operated by Lara Dopson, age 25, of 304-555 Albert Street West.
Ms Dopson was taken to the hospital by ambulance for treatment of minor injuries. Damage to both cars is described as moderate. Mr. Marandola was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with fail to yield from driveway.
CASH GONE FROM PARK
City Police responded to an alarm call early this morning at the Bellevue Park Canteen area. Upon arrival officers found that the business had been entered and an undetermined amount of money was taken. It did not appear that anything else was missing. This break and enter will be followed up by officers from the Investigation Services Section as well as the Forensic Section.
