Two People To Appear In Bail Court This Morning
1) 52-year old Linda Karchie of 3-760 Wellington Street East was arrested just before 1 am this morning and charged with one count of assault with a weapon, one count of assault, one count of mischief under $5,000 and two counts of breach of probation. It is alleged that on the 12th of June the accused hit a male victim known to her in the head with a cup. This is not a domestic relationship and the incident occurred in a downtown residence. A short time later the accused assaulted the victim while they were both at the Sault Area Hospital by allegedly slapping the victim in the face. It if further alleged that the accused hit the sliding door in the emergency room area causing damage to the door. At the time of the offence the accused was on two probation orders both with terms to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.
2) 37-year old Mark Reed of 29 Pentagon Avenue was arrested yesterday on a outstanding warrant for one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug or substance and one count of production of a controlled drug or substance. On the 21st of May City Police attended at an address on Grace Street for a disturbance call. When officers investigated the complaint they located 8 marijuana plants growing which were about 2 ½ feet tall. Further investigation revealed that the room at 6 Grace Street in which the plants were located belonged to the accused Mark Reed. Officers were unable to locate Mr. Reed that night and requested a warrant for his arrest. The estimated street value of the narcotics is $8,000.
14 Year Old Charged With Mischief
A 14-year old youth was arrested last evening just before 10 pm and charged with one count of mischief under $5,000. It is alleged that the youth kicked a door to a residence in the 100 block of Crawford Avenue damaging the frame and trim. The accused will appear in court on July 18th.
13 Year Old Arrested
A 13-year old youth was arrested yesterday and charged with one count of robbery and one count of mischief. It is alleged that on the 11th of June the accused assaulted a male victim known to him by punching and kicking the victim. In addition to the assault it is alleged that the accused stole some property of the victims and also damaged the victims bicycle by hitting it with a shovel. The victim received non-life threatening injuries but did not require medical treatment at the time of the incident. The accused will appear in court on July 18th.
Bear Sighting On River Road
There were two calls last evening to the River Road area in the 700 block in regards to a bear in the area. The Ministry of Natural Resources was advised these calls last night by City Police.
Kids Summer Festival
On Saturday June 17th between 10 am and 3 pm the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service along with the Canadian National (CN) Railway Police will be participating in the Kidz Summer Festival event. This event is free and will take place at the Robert Bondar Pavilion. The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service and the CN Police will be hosting a bike rodeo. In order to participate in the rodeo you will need to bring your bike down to the area, have your helmet on and must have a consent form signed by your parents. You also need to be between the ages of 8 and 14. By taking the time to participate in the bike rodeo, you will learn how to properly operate your bike and you can enter a draw to win a brand new bike courtesy of Rome’s Your Independent Grocer. Some of the other events that will be occurring are chalk drawing, a bike and helmet inspection station, fingerprinting and a craft card table to make card for your favourite teacher or a Father’s Day card. There will also be an archery demonstration and well as the roll over simulator courtesy of the OPP. A number of your favourite mascots will also be in attendance including Elmer the Safety Elephant, Katie the Kangaroo, Caution and Chance, Zap, Sparky and Buckles. If you get hungry the folks from Risk Watch will also be having a BBQ with a minimal cost of food. This fun filled day of events is a great opportunity for the kids in our community to learn how to be safe but have fun at the same time they are learning. Come on out and join us.
