POLICE USE DNA EVIDENCE
Yesterday, with the assistance of DNA evidence, city police arrested Trevor Seaton, age 18, of 449 Charles Street for a break and enter from August of 2003.

On August 11th, 2003 police responded to a break and enter to Shaw Milling on Bruce Street. Thieves had gained entry to the building and an undisclosed amount of money had been taken.

Further investigation by officers from the Investigation Services Section and the Forensic Unit resulted in a match between a suspect and trace evidence that had been left behind at the scene. Mr. Seaton will appear in court on August 9th.


FRAUD UNIT MAKES ARREST
Yesterday, investigators from the Fraud Section arrested Richard Allan Bradley, age 32, of 63 George Street after completing a lengthy investigation.

It is alleged that between April 10th and 19th, the accused committed a series of frauds and used unauthorized credit card numbers to make purchases at several retail and service merchants. Bradley was on probation at the time of the offence for an earlier conviction for unlawfully using credit card data.

He was charged with 8 counts of fraud, 8 counts of unlawful use of credit card data, as well as one count of breach of probation. The total amount of purchases and services was just over $1,000. The accused will appear in court on August 9th.


CHARGES LAID IN SATURDAY ACCIDENT
Yesterday, investigators from the Traffic Services Section completed the investigation into the accident from July 3rd between the car and motorcycle on Great Northern Road and Old Highway 17 North.

Jacqueline Blais, age 63, was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with failing to yield to traffic on through highway. Both the driver and the passenger of the motorcycle, Harry Archibald and Janet Robidoux, remain in the Sault Area Hospital.


BIKE – CAR COLLISION
Yesterday at 11:30 am an accident between a car and a bicycle sent a 57-year-old male to the hospital. Donald Ahonen, of 1-471 Korah Road was riding his bicycle eastbound on Albert Street and as he was crossing the March Street intersection, a car driven by Karen Cameron-Deluco of 330 Third Avenue struck him. Mr. Ahonen was taken by ambulance to the hospital with minor injuries. Mrs. Cameron-Deluco was charged with fail to yield to traffic on through highway.



ACCIDENT SENDS ONE TO HOSPITAL
Shortly before 7 pm last night city police were called to Bloor and Parliament Streets for an accident with injuries. It is alleged that a car driven by James Macmillian of 1090 Peoples Road was traveling northbound on Parliament Street when he turned left in front of a pickup truck traveling southbound.

The driver of the pickup truck, Lisa Charette of 827 Wellington Street West was taken to the hospital for treatment of minimal injuries. The pickup truck received severe damage, and the car moderate damage. Mr. Macmillian was charged with left turn-failing to afford reasonable opportunity to avoid collision



KIDS TO GET BIKES FROM TIM HORTON’S
On July 7th at 11 am 12 local kids will each receive a Raleigh Avenger Mountain Bike and an Avenir Sonic bicycle helmet after they participated in Tim Horton’s “Earn a Bike” program by completing 30 hours of work in the month of June.

Every year 12 kids between the ages of 9 and 12 are selected to participate after they have submitted their names for the program. City Police Sergeant Jane Martynuk said the police service coordinates the program and the kids complete 30 hours of community service by cleaning up the parks and schools or by assisting local community groups.

Local Tim Horton’s owner, Rick McLeod, advises “At Tim Horton’s we are very proud of the kids and their commitment to helping out in their own community, and we are happy to provide the bikes and helmets as a reward for all of their hard work.”

The bikes will be awarded at a 11 am on Wednesday July 7th at the Sault Ste Marie Police Services at 580 Second Line East.
