Police Requesting Public’s Assistance with Suspicious Car Fire Investigation:

On the 26th of July just before 11 pm Sault Ste Marie Police and Fire Services attended at a car fire in the driveway of a residence in the 300 block of Bruce Street.

Fire Services have advised City Police that the cause of the fire is unknown and appears suspicious. Investigations Services with the Sault Ste Marie Police Service engaged in an investigation early yesterday morning.

Police received information that at the time of the incident, a witness observed two male youths running northbound on Bruce Street away from the area of the fire and may be involved. No further description is available. Investigators do not believe at this time that this fire is connected to the recent suspicious resident and shed fires that they are currently investigating.

The vehicle involved, a 1993 red Ford Expedition has been parked at the vacant residence for some time and has not been operated for at least a year. It was extensively damaged. Officers are still attempting to identify the owner of the vehicle that has been parked at the vacant residence and has not been operated for at least a year.

If anyone has any information regarding this fire or the vehicle, please contact city police at 949-6300
