The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to remind motorists to give themselves a bit of extra time this morning before driving out of the driveway. Ensure your windows are clear of snow to allow for visibility. Also adjust your driving conditions to the winter roads. In the last 24-hour period City Police responded to 5 motor vehicle collisions. Lack of drivers failing to adjust to road conditions was a contributing factor in several of them.
The following persons will appear in bail court this morning:
1) A 26-year old male was arrested by yesterday afternoon and charged with one count of threatening to cause death or bodily harm, one count of criminal harassment and one count of breach of probation. It is alleged that on December 29th the accused threatened to kill an ex-girlfriend. Also in February of 2006 the accused made a large amount of phone calls to victim over a 2-day period. At the time of the December offence the accused was on probation with conditions to keep the peace and be good.
2) A 12-year old youth was arrested yesterday afternoon and charged with one count of threatening to cause death or bodily harm and one count of assault with a weapon. It is alleged that on the 8th of January the accused threatened to kill his mother and was holding a knife during this time frame. Police were called and the accused was taken into custody.
3) A 24-year old male was arrested yesterday just before noon hour and charged with one count of threatening to damage property and two counts of breach of probation. The accused was involved in an argument with his girlfriend and police were called. The accused was on probation with conditions not to be with the victim. The accused threatened to blow up the home of the person who called police.
4) A 17-year old female was arrested yesterday and charged with one count of assault causing bodily harm. It is alleged that on December 31st the accused assaulted another female by pulling her hair and biting the victim in the check.
Failed to Appear in Court
22-year old Curtis Erb of 9-569 Queen Street West was arrested yesterday morning after turning himself into City Police. It is alleged that on the 4th of January the accused failed to attend court after being charged with one count of impaired driving and one count of consume over the legal limit. The accused will appear in court on February 12th.
Assault to Boyfriend and Police
A 43-year old female was arrested just after midnight and charged with one count of assault and one count of assault police. It is alleged that the accused assaulted her boyfriend by slapping and kicking him. The accused was arrested for assault. It is further alleged that while at the police station the accused assaulted an officer by hitting the officer in the chest. The accused will appear in court on February 12th.
Youth Arrested for Shoplifting
Last evening officers from Patrol Services arrested a 13-year old female and a 14-year old female. Both were arrested and charged with one count each of theft under $5,000 and five counts each of possession of property obtained by crime. It is alleged that both youths stole perfume from Sears and were apprehended by store security officers. It is alleged that both youths had property stolen from Sears, IDA Drug Mart, Blue Notes, Dollarama and Zellers. Police were subsequently contacted. Both females with appear in court on February 13th.
The following break and enters were reported in the last 24-hour period:
1) Between 1:30 pm and 2:15 pm on the 6th of January a home on Shannon Road was entered. Jewellery was taken from the residence.
2) Yesterday morning before 11:30 am a home on lower Pine Street was entered. Two teenage males were seen leaving the area with backpacks. Items taken include an Xbox 360 and an extra controller. No description is available of the males at this time.
3) Yesterday afternoon between 1 pm and 2:30 pm a home on Princeton Drive was entered. Items taken include jewellery, a PS2, a PS3, a Game cube, an X-box 360 and various games as well as a computer.
