Arrest Made in Gore St. Stabbing
Officers from Investigation Services have made an arrest in the stabbing that occurred in the downtown area in the early morning hours of January 1st. The incident occurred on Gore Street near Albert Street around 2:25 am. The 22-year old male victim remains in serious condition in the Sault Area Hospital. Last evening 29 year old Christopher Daynard of 389 Pim Street turned himself into the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service and will appear in bail court this morning. Daynard has been charged with one count of attempt murder, one count of assault with a weapon and one count of weapons dangerous.
Several persons were arrested over the Holiday Weekend for drinking and driving related offences:
1) 49-year old Joseph Pasheri of 301 Goulais Avenue was charged on the 29th of December with one count of impaired driving and one count of consume over the legal limit. Officers on routine patrol stopped the vehicle just after 2 pm after they observed a vehicle swerving on Douglas Street. The accused will appear in court on February 5th.
2) 21-year old Jamie Lato of 12 Ellis Road was arrested on the 31st of December and charged with one count of consume over the legal limit and one count of breach of release order. Just after 2:30 am it is alleged that the accused was traveling on Goulais Avenue at a high rate of speed and officers stopped the accused. He will appear in court on February 5th.
3) 29-year old Andrew Lysyj of 167 Woodward Avenue was arrested on the 31st of December around 2:30 am during a R.I.D.E. check. Upon arrest officers also located a small quantity of marijuana on the accused. The accused was been charged with one count of impaired driving and one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance. He will appear in court on February 5th.
4) On the 1st of January shortly before 11 pm officers checked a vehicle on Sussex Road and found the driver allegedly under the influence of alcohol. 46-year old Gordon Kannegeisser of 421 Langdon Road was charged with one count of impaired driving and count of consume over the legal limit. He will appear in court on February 5th.
Youth Caught in Attempted Theft
A 15-year old youth was arrested on the 1st of January just after 2 am and charged with one count of theft under $5,000. It is alleged that the male attempted to steal a vehicle in the 200 block of Old Garden River Road. The homeowner caught the youth and called the police. The youth with appear in court on January 30th.
Lobster Theft at Rome's
37-year old Gregory Brown of 1-270 St. James Street was arrested on the 31st of December and charged with one count of theft under $5,000. It is alleged that the accused attempted the leave Rome’s with a number of unpaid for lobster tails. The accused was apprehended by store security and turned over to Police. The accused will appear in court on January 29th.
Resisting Arrest
25-year old Tilly Skunk of Thunder Bay was arrested on the 1st of January around 4 am and charged with one count of resist arrest. It is alleged that the accused approached officers who were in the area of Albert Street and Gore Street working on the stabbing investigation. It is alleged that the accused approached the officers and wished to fight. The accused was told several times to leave the area and failed to do so. The accused was subsequently arrested for a non-criminal related offence. While being taken into custody it is alleged that the accused resisted arrest. Alcohol may have been a contributing factor. The accused will appear in court on January 30th in relation to the criminal charge.
The following break and enters were reported over the Holiday Weekend:
1) A garage in the 400 block of Northern Avenue was entered sometime in December. On the 29th of December the owner discovered the break and enter and noted that an MIG welder, belt sander and various other tools were taken.
2) A residence in the 100 block of Gore Street was entered between 5 pm and 6 pm on the 29th of December. Items taken include a Playstation and games, a DVD player and a cell phone.
3) A residence on Sheppard Street was entered between 7 pm on the 30th of December and 7 am on the 31st of December. Items taken include two bottles of wine, a cell phone, an MP3 player and a laptop computer.
4) On the 1st of January around 6 am a homeowner in the 500 block of Second Line West was awaken by two males kicking in her door. The resident observed a group of 5 or 6 males leaving the area. Nothing was taken in the incident. One male was wearing a brown suede jacket and had short dark hair. No other descriptions are available.
5) Sometime between 7 pm on the 31st of December and 10 am on the 1st of January a window at the North Street Mini Mart was broken. It is unknown at this time if anything was taken.
