On February 8 city police officers arrested 22-year-old Melinda Robinson of Queen Street West for assault. It is alleged she confronted another female known to her in the 500 block of Queen Street West after words were exchanged between the two of them. The assault consisted of punching and hair pulling and the victim did not require any medical treatment. The accused will be appearing in Provincial Court March 14.

Officers from the Sault Ste Marie Police Service Drug Enforcement Unit, Crime Suppression Unit, Emergency Services Unit, and Canine Unit executed a Controlled Drugs and Substance Act search warrant on a Campbell Street residence on February 8. A quantity of cocaine, methamphetamine pills, marijuana and cash was located and seized. The street value of the seized narcotics was in excess of $3,600. 35-year-old Cecil Kline and 38-year-old Carla Gerard have been charged with three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking in narcotics and will be appearing in Provincial Court March 7.

City police arrested two males from Hamilton, Ontario in the early morning of February 8. Investigation revealed that the two were involved in breaking into a business in the Industrial Park area. They were allegedly stealing copper pipe and were confronted in another parking lot in the Industrial Park area where a witness blocked the driveway with his tractor preventing them from exiting the lot. The two accused were able to leave but ended up in a snow bank in the Great Northern Road/Northern Ave area. The two accused fled the area and were later located after a canine track to a nearby motel. A search warrant was executed by detectives later in the day and more stolen items were located. The two males have been charged with break and enter, theft, possession of stolen property, possession of break-in instruments and failing to remain at the scene of an accident. They will both be appearing in Bail Court later today.
