Assault, Assault with a Weapon and Theft under $5000

A 49-year old male was arrested just after midnight this morning and charged with one count of assault, one count of assault with a weapon and one count of theft under $5,000. It is alleged that the accused assaulted his girlfriend by pushing and kicking the victim as well as striking her with a bottle. It is alleged that the accused also took some money from the victim. The victim received non-life threatening injuries. The incident took place in a residence in the in the City’s west end. The accused will appear in bail court this morning.

Two Male Youths Arrested After Threatening Teacher

Yesterday afternoon just before two pm officers from Patrol Services and the High School Liaison officers attended at a local high school regarding a threatening complaint. During the course of the investigation it was learned that a 14-year old male youth and a 15-year old male youth had threatened a male teacher. It is further alleged that the 15-year old youth also assaulted the teacher by striking the teacher in the face with a hat. It is alleged that when officer went to arrest the 15-year old youth the accused resisted arrested and punched and kicked the officer as well as threatening to harm the officer. The accused was taken into custody after a brief struggle. The 14-year old youth has been charged with one count of threatening to cause death or bodily harm. The 15-year old youth has been charged with one count of assault, two counts of threatening to cause death or bodily harm, one count of resist arrest and one count of assault police officer. Both accused males will appear in court on March 13th.

Female Charged with Assault

Last evening officers from Patrol Services arrested a 39-year old female and charged her with one count of assault. It is alleged that the accused assaulted her boyfriend by punching him in the face several times. The victim did not require medical treatment for his non-life threatening injuries. The incident occurred in a centrally located residence. The accused will appear in court on March 7th.

Male Charged with Assaulting Ex-Girlfriend

Just before 2 am this morning officers from Patrol Services arrested a 45-year old male and charged him with one count of assault. It is alleged that the accused assaulted his ex-girlfriend by pushing her. The incident occurred in the City’s east end. The accused will appear in court on March 14th.

There were no break and enters reported in the last 24-hour period.

14 Motor Vehicle Collisions over the Last 24 hours

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service responded to 14 motor vehicle collisions in the last 24 hour period. Motorists are reminded that the roads can be slippery in this extreme cold weather especially at intersections. Allow yourself more stopping time. Also slow down when your visibility is reduced due to drifting and blowing snow. Drivers are reminded to make sure their windows are clear of snow and frost before heading out onto the busy roads. Many of the collisions that officers investigate could be avoided if drivers adjusted their driving to the road conditions.
