DRUG BUST Yesterday at approximately 8: 47 am, following a traffic stop, Robert Rogoschensky, age 36 of 261 Roach Avenue, Welland, Ontario, along with a co-accused Shannon Pickering, age 25 of 471 Korah Road were arrested for possession of a controll
DRUG BUST
Yesterday at approximately 8: 47 am, following a traffic stop, Robert Rogoschensky, age 36 of 261 Roach Avenue, Welland, Ontario, along with a co-accused Shannon Pickering, age 25 of 471 Korah Road were arrested for possession of a controlled substance.

The accused, Mr. Rogoschensky had a plastic bag with a substance believed to be marijuana in it. The co-accused was located in the vehicle in close proximity to the accused.

It was also found that Rogoschensky was wanted by the Ontario Provincial Police for outstanding warrants. Both have been charged with Possession of a Controlled Drug and will appear in court on March 17th.


ARRESTED FOR PASSING COUNTERFEIT MONEY
On the January 12, Kajendran Balasubramanium, age 23 of #24 110 Breton Road was identified as gambling at a Blackjack table at Sault Ste. Marie Charity Casino during a period of time when 3 counterfeit Canadian hundred-dollar bills were passed.

On the January 13, the accused was again identified gambling at a Blackjack table and was positively identified as uttering an additional counterfeit Canadian one hundred dollar bill.

The suspect was arrested by Casino Unit Police and later released unconditionally pending an investigation by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service. He was subsequently arrested on February 10th at 1:14 pm by Detectives from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Fraud Unit for uttering this currency on or between January 12 & 13.

Balasubramanium was also wanted on an outstanding warrant of arrest issued by Parry Sound OPP for uttering counterfeit currency on January 11 in Parry Sound. He will appear in court to face his Uttering Counterfeit Money charges on March 17th.


MAN ARRESTED FOR ASSAULT
On the January 24, in the early morning hours, the victim, a 37-year-old female became involved in a domestic argument with her boyfriend. The accused is a 26-year-old male residing at the victim's residence on Laurier Place.

During this argument the accused slapped the victim across the face with the back of his hand, striking her in the cheek and nose area, causing the victim to fall backwards over a child's toy chest.

The victim suffered a large bruise on the left side of her lower back, about the size of a soccer ball. Police were notified of the incident at a later date and an investigation was conducted.

On February 10th at 12:45 pm detectives arrested and charged the male with Assault. He will appear in court March 10th.


CITY YOUTH ARRESTED FOR PERJURY
YesteRday, two City Police Patrol Officers went to Wawa to pick up, Robert Bouchard, age 18 of 42 Tamarack, Wawa. Officers went to the residence of the accused and executed arrested warrants for Perjury and Giving Contradictory Evidence.

The warrants arose from an incident that occurred in bail court testimony on Dec. 19th, 2002. Officers returned Bouchard to Sault Ste. Marie and he will appear in bail court today.


WOMAN ASSAULTED WHILE HELPING FRIEND
On the January 26, at 3:45 p.m., a 42-year-old female was at the police station and advised that she was at the Nicolet Tavern on the January 25th and at 2:30 a.m.

While she was near the entrance doors, James Poole, age 23 of #309 135 Cambridge Place entered the bar and grabbed a female friend by the arm and attempted to pull her out against her will.

The 42-year-old female advised police that she attempted to calm Poole down by standing in between him and his female acquaintance. At this time James Poole became quite irate and upset with her and began to push her. James Poole pushed the victim approximately 5 times.

The victim suffered a bruised left arm at the bicep and elbow and a swollen left ankle. Patrol Officers were unable to locate Poole at the time of the incident. Yesterday, at 8:25 pm, Poole went to the police services building and turned himself in. He has been charged with Assault and will appear in court March 17th.


MAN ARRESTED FOR ASSAULT & CONFINEMENT
Yesterday, at approximately 8:00pm, a 20-year-old male assaulted his girlfriend at a Wellington St. East apartment by slapping her repeatedly in the face and head-butting her in the forehead.

As the 25-year-old female victim tried to leave the apartment, the accused pulled her back by her hair, preventing her from calling the police.

The female suffered a bump on her head. Police were ultimately called and the male was arrested and charged with Assault and Forcible Confinement.

At the time of the offence, he was bound by a probation order not to molest, harass or physically interfere with victim and to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. As a result, he was charged with 2 breaches of probation. He will appear in bail court today.


MAN ARRESTED FOR ASSAULT
Yesterday, at approximately 7: 10 pm, the accused, a 24-year-old male, assaulted his ex-common law, a 21-year-old female by pushing her and hitting her in the face several times.

The accused also committed mischief by punching a hole in a bathroom wall. Patrol officers were called to Crystal Place and arrested and charged the male with Assault and Mischief Under $5,000.00. He will appear in bail court today.


ARRESTED FOR IMPAIRED DRIVING
At 6:54 pm yesterday, patrol officers investigated a two-car motor vehicle collision on Wellington Street East just east of McDougald Street. A 1994 Ford Tempo was being driven east (the wrong way) on Wellington Street by Lisa Woolsey, age 32 of 266 John St., when it struck a snow bank then a stopped 1998 Chrysler sedan head-on.

The Chrysler being driven by Joyce Mertes, age 73 of Huntington Park, had stopped her westbound car on Wellington Street East facing west before she was struck.

Both cars were towed from the scene. Woolsey has been charged under the Criminal Code with Impaired Driving and Driving over .08, along with driving the Wrong Way On A One-Way Street under the Highway Traffic Act. She will appear in criminal court on March 17th.


YOUTH ARRESTED FOR STEALING BOOZE
Yesterday at approximately 7:45 pm a 16-year-old male was at the LCBO in the Station Mall. He was confronted by LCBO staff and surrendered a 60 oz. bottle of Smirnoff Vodka concealed inside his coat. Security was called. He was verbally abusive to the security officer.

The youth gave a false name to the security staff. Police were called. The 16-year-old's mother subsequently identified the youth. The male lied about his identity as he was in the trespass file for the Station Mall.

He was on a probation order to keep the peace and be good and not to consume alcohol. During their investigation the police officers detected a strong smell of an alcoholic beverage on his breath.

The youth admitted to consuming "a shot". He was arrested and charged with two counts of breach of probation and issued two provincial offense notices for trespassing under the Trespass to Property Act and drinking under age under the Liquor Licence Act. He will appear in youth court in early March.


TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS
The Police Service investigated 10 motor vehicle collisions yesterday. With more inclement weather coming, motorists are reminded to use extra care when driving.
