Distraught Male Now in Custody

At 7:45 am this morning city police received information regarding an emotionally distraught male person inside a residence on Curran Drive. Police suspected the male, the lone occupant in the residence at the time, to be in possession of a firearm and members of the Sault Ste Marie Police Service’s Emergency Services Unit, the Canine Unit and Patrol attended on scene. The residence was quickly contained and the Sault Ste Marie Police Service Negotiator established communications with the male. The 37 year-old male exited the residence and was taken into police custody without incident. There are no further details to be released.

Male Charged with Assaulting Two Police Officers:

28 year-old Jeffrey Williams of #106-334 Dacey Road was arrested on the 9th of February at 4:08 pm on Lyons Avenue and charged with two counts of assault peace officer and one count of resist police officer. It is alleged that at around 4 pm on the 9th of February, city police received information regarding a suspicious vehicle in the downtown area with four occupants possibly smoking drugs inside. Officers observed the vehicle, a Hyundai Elentra, westbound on Wellington Street West near North Street and were able to stop it on Lyons Avenue. When officers checked the vehicle they could smell an odour of cannabis inside. When police began to question the driver, the accused, he became very belligerent towards them and verbally uncooperative and when he stepped out of the vehicle he began to push the officer. It is further alleged that when he was being arrested, he punched two officers. One of the officers received injuries that did not require any medical attention.
The accused is to attend in bail court this morning.

Domestic Related Arrest:

A 43 year-old male was arrested on the 9th of February on Wellington Street West and charged with one count of assault, one count of threaten death or bodily harm and one count of mischief. It is alleged that on the 31st of January the accused assaulted his common law partner at her residence by grabbing her by the face and throat, pushing her and pulling her hair. He also threatened to kill her and caused some damaged to artwork after ripping it off the wall. He is to appear in bail court this morning. The victim received non-life threatening injuries as a result of the assault.

• A vehicle parked on Cunningham Road was entered sometime overnight on the 8th-9th of February. A Motorola Razor cell phone was stolen.
• A Laptop and charger was stolen sometime over the weekend out of an office on Queen Street East.

Mischief Reports:

• A window was smashed at a residence on Taskar Drive.
• Just Lubes on Great Northern Road reported mischief on the property – a vacuum hose was damaged and garbage drums were tipped over.
