Early this morning, at 2:23 am patrol officers were advised that a 1990 Sonata had been stolen in the Farewell Terrace area. Officers located the vehicle a short time later abandoned and parked facing southbound on Pozzebon Crescent.

Tracks left in the snow lead the officers to a shed at the rear of a residence in the general area where the car had been left. At 3:10 am patrol officers located four persons in the shed and a quantity of suspected hash oil and cocaine.

Arrested and charged with Possession of Stolen Property, two counts of Possession of a Controlled Drug for the Purpose of Trafficking, Breach of Recognizance and Breach of Probation is 21-year-old Corey Blais, age 21 of 87 Central Street.

Arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Drug and Possession of a Controlled Drug for the Purpose of Trafficking is Mark Hernden, age 22 of 52 Pozzebon Crescent. Also arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Drug for the Purpose of Trafficking is 21-year-old Chantelle Bonefant, age 21 of 625 Korah Rd.

Officers also arrested and charged a young person with two counts of Possession of a Controlled Drug for the Purpose of Trafficking, two counts of Breach of Probation under the Youth Criminal Justice Act and three counts of Possession of Stolen Property.

The young person and Corey Blais will appear in bail court today. The other accused will appear in bail court on January 12th. No street value has been estimated for the seized drugs.


HANDGUN SEIZED
On the 1st of December 2003 at 1:40 pm, the accused, William Hess, age 50 of 751 Pine Street, Apt. 311 was operating a Chrysler Fifth Avenue in the underground parking garage of St. Bernard’s Towers, while his ability to do so was impaired by alcohol.

Patrol Officers subsequently arrested and charged the accused with Impaired Driving and Driving over .08.

A search of Hess by the Police Officers revealed a holstered 357 Magnum Pistol concealed in his jacket pocket. Officers seized the handgun and additionally charged the accused with Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon, Carrying a Concealed Weapon and Occupant of a Motor Vehicle Knowing there is a Weapon in It. He will appear in court on January 12th.

MISCHIEF CHARGE
Shortly after 2:00 am this morning Patrol Officers were called to an apartment complex on South Market Street where a male had smashed a pane of glass in a door with a beer bottle. At 2:36 am Officers arrested and charged Gordon Leonard, age 37 of 874 Queen Street East with Mischief under $5,000.00. Leonard will appear in court on January 12th.

SAULTITES NOT READY FOR WINTER DRIVING
Over the past two days the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service responded to thirty-two motor vehicle collision calls in the city. Twenty of those calls occurred in the past twenty-four hours. Most of the collisions were of a minor nature with no injures associated to them. Many of these collisions could be attributed to drivers not adjusting to the inclement weather conditions the city has been experiencing.

On Sunday, November the 30th at 4:35 pm a car that was north bound in the 900 block area of Peoples Rd. lost control in the inclement weather and slide across the roadway striking two pedestrians who were walking on the west side of the road.

The driver of the vehicle, Kyle Sweezey, age 24 of 318 Brule Road was not injured, while the two pedestrians, Melissa Assiginack, age 29 and Todd Lafave, age 38 both from 221 Wellington Street West were taken to hospital by ambulance with major and minor injures. No charges have been laid in the incident. Drivers are reminded to adjust their driving habits to the winter weather conditions.

BREAK INS
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service investigated three break in calls yesterday. Shortly after 12:00 pm a tenant of an apartment on Lake Street advised police that thieves had tried unsuccessfully to break into their apartment.

And just after 5:00 pm two cottage owners from Gros Cap Rd. advised police that thieves had broken into their cottages. Anyone with information on these crimes is asked to contact the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service at 949-6300 or Crime Stoppers
