Failing to Appear in Court
30-year old Brenda Antoine of 1-545 Second Line West was arrested yesterday afternoon on outstanding warrants for failing to attend court. It is alleged that on March 19th the accused was arrested for one count of impaired driving and one count of consume over the legal limit. It is further alleged that on the 24th of April the accused fail to attend court and a warrant was subsequently issued for her arrest. She will appear in court on September 25th.
Public Mischief
A 20-year old female was arrested yesterday afternoon and charged with one count of public mischief. It is alleged that in May of this year the accused reported a domestic assault to City Police which resulted in a male being arrested and charged with one count of assault, one count of assault with a weapon and one count of breach of probation. On the 21st of August the female accused advised the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service that the assault had not occurred. The female was subsequently arrested and charged and will appear in court on September 25th. The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service does not release the names of accused persons in domestic violent matters.
Break & Enter
Yesterday morning City Police attended at Superior Slag on Allens Side Road for a break and enter. Sometime between August 20th at 3 am and August 21st at 3 am the compound was entered and approximately $8,000 worth of copper wire was stolen. Officers from Investigation Services are continuing to work on this break and enter. The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is asking that scrap yards contact the police if individual attend with quantities of copper wire. The scrap yards are also being asked to inquire where the copper was obtained. If you have any information regarding these crimes or any other, contact City Police at 949-6300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS. If your information to Crime Stoppers leads to an arrest you could receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
Bear Sightings
Bears were seen in the last in the last 24 hours at three different locations:
1) Yesterday afternoon a bear was in the area of West Perth Bay.
2) Around 2 am this morning a bear was observed in the area of St. Georges Avenue and Bush Street.
3) Around 2 am a bear was also in the area of Cathcart Street and John Street.
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service and the Ministry of Natural Resources would like to remind the public to remove food sources for the bears from around your home. There are a number of things the public can do from something as simple as not feeding the birds to putting out the garbage in the morning and not the night before.
