YOUTHS CAUGHT BREAKING INTO CARS Yesterday, in the early hours, city police responded to complaints in the east end of the city in regards to two youths entering vehicles and stealing property.

Yesterday, in the early hours, city police responded to complaints in the east end of the city in regards to two youths entering vehicles and stealing property.

Both youths were located and arrested for theft under $5000.00 and possession of stolen property. Once the two were apprehended, they advised police which vehicles they stole from and assisted police in returning a substantial amount of change and C.D.s to the rightful owners.

A further police records check revealed the two involved did not have a criminal background. All parties agreed the two involved were to enter the Youth Referral Program consisting of apology letters to the victims and serving community service hours at the Soup Kitchen.


DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
Yesterday in the mid-afternoon, a male went to an east end residence belonging to an ex-girlfriend. An argument broke out and a female party was assaulted by being punched in the face.

The accused male was on a previous release condition not to go near the residence or to speak to the victim. He has been charged with breaching a recognizance and assault and will appear in bail court today at 1:30 p.m.


Yesterday at approximately 10:00 p.m. a male person assaulted a female after an argument broke out at a residence in the west end of the City.

The assault consisted of the accused grabbing the victim by her neck and choking her. Police were called and the male was arrested for domestic violence and will attend in bail court today at 1:30 p.m.


Early this morning, police responded to a domestic dispute in the downtown area. A male party pushed and punched a female several time before police arrived.

The victim had contacted police earlier in regards to this male prowling around her home, but he eluded police at that time. He has been charged with the assault and is to attend bail court today at 1:30 p.m.


PARENTS GET INTO KIDS FIGHT
On Sunday in the early evening, a young person committed the offence of assault by first punching the victim and later punching the victim's son. A young person who had property stolen and was being threatened by older teenagers, contacted his parent for assistance.

Once the victim's parent arrived, an argument ensued with the suspect's father and the victim's father, and a fistfight occurred. Another person there to assist the victim's father was assaulted and hit on the head with a bicycle.

It seems a bicycle was thrown at the father of the victim, he ducked out of the way and it struck the other party. None of the parties were known to each other.

The youth has been charged with two counts of assault and will appear in court on September 16 at 9:30 a.m. and a female adult has been charged with assault and causing a disturbance and is to appear in court September 15 at 9:00 a.m.


CHARGED WITH THEFT
On Sunday at approximately 1:30 p.m., the accused, Steven Bowes, 39 of 659 Shafer Avenue, allegedly went to a local grocery store and attempted to remove property from the store with out paying for it.

Bowes was already on probation for a previous theft under charge. He was charged with the theft under $5000.00 and breach of probation and will attend court on September 15 at 9:00 a.m.


ACCIDENT SENDS ONE TO HOSPITAL
City Police investigated several accidents over the past 24 hours that sent two people to the hospital with minor injuries.

Valerie Catling, age 42, of 12 St. Basils Drive was proceeding northbound on Gore Street through a green light when a bicycle being driven by Linus Southwind, age 17 of 183 Alexandria, proceeded westbound, the wrong way, on Albert Street West, through a red light and was struck by the Catling vehicle.

Southwind was transported to the Sault Area Hospitals by ambulance with minor injuries. Charges are pending.


TOWED VEHICLE INVOLVED IN ACCIDENT
Micheal Neveau age 69 of Goulais Mission, Goulais Bay, was towing a vehicle eastbound on McNabb Street near Algoma Avenue with a driver, Sarah Neveau age 46 of the same address, in the towed vehicle.

Mr. Neveau turned from McNabb Street onto Algoma Avenue in front of a vehicle being driven westbound by Christopher Monarch, age 23 of 16 Beaumont Avenue. Monarch was unable to stop and struck the towed vehicle driven by Sarah Neveau.

Adrienne Santoro, age 22 of 32 Charlotte Avenue, a passenger in the Monarch vehicle, went to the Sault Area Hospital on her own for minor injuries.

Michael Neveau has been charged with turning not in safety and also improper means of attachment for towing under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.


R.I.D.E. PROGRAM NETS NO CHARGES
The R.I.D.E. program checked 357 vehicles. Eight roadside tests were administered resulting in three 12-hour suspensions being laid and no impaired charges.
