A 57-year-old man is facing child pornography charges after Sault Police were tipped off by a local business that was servicing the suspect’s computer.

The investigation began on May 1, when detectives received a report of child sexual abuse materials found on a computer that had been brought in for servicing.

“After obtaining a warrant to examine the device, detectives completed a forensic analysis of the computer and located numerous digital files meeting the definition of child pornography under the Criminal Code,” says a news release issued today by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.

On Wednesday, the suspect attended Sault Police headquarters and was arrested.

Steven Bedford is charged with one count each of possession of child pornography and accessing child pornography.

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Bedford is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
