CHARGED WITH FRAUD During July 2003 the accused, Balramnarine Sharma, age 37 of 568 Second Line West, allegedly deposited 5 counterfeit cheques totaling approximately $20,000.
CHARGED WITH FRAUD
During July 2003 the accused, Balramnarine Sharma, age 37 of 568 Second Line West, allegedly deposited 5 counterfeit cheques totaling approximately $20,000.00 to two financial institutions-HSBC Canada and Northern Credit Union and made several cash withdrawals.

The accused also negotiated a vehicle loan for $25,000.00 from HSBC with false information and made attempts to get an additional $30,000.00 from TD Canada Trust with a false application and thereby defrauding HSBC.

The accused allegedly opened several bank accounts at these banks and has been issuing cheques to merchants and realtors for purchase of property and merchandise knowing there are insufficient funds, thereby defrauding or attempting to defraud these merchants.

On Tuesday at 1:00 pm, detectives from the fraud unit arrested and charged the accused with seven counts of Fraud, five counts of Uttering Forged Documents and three counts of Making a False Statement. He will appear in court later this fall.


SEXUAL ASSAULT
On the 14th of September at approximately 9:00 am the accused, a 31-year-old male, broke into the victim’s, home. Once inside the accused physically assaulted the victim and forcibly confined her. The accused then sexually assaulted the victim. During the assault, the accused repeatedly stated he was going to kill the victim.

The victim was able to get free and call police and the accused left the residence. Yesterday at 2:36 pm, the accused went to the Police Services Building and Detectives arrested and charged the accused with Break and Enter, Forcible Confinement, Mischief, Sexual Assault and two counts of Breach of Undertaking. The adult victim known to the accused received minor injuries in the incident. The accused will appear in bail court today.


ARRESTED FOR ASSAULT
In the afternoon 17th of September 2003 the accused, Scott Wright, age 39 of 146 Pim Street, allegedly assaulted the victim, an adult male by deliberately pushing him from behind. The assaulted occurred at a downtown location. The victim was not seriously injured in the assault. At 5:14 pm Patrol Officers arrested and charged the accused with Assault. He will appear in court on October 20th.


USED SHOTGUN TO COLLECT A DEBT
In the afternoon of the 17th of September 2003 the accused, David Stadnyk, age 45 of 10 Shasha Lane, Havilland, went to a Huron Street residence in regards to settling an outstanding debt that was owed to him. An altercation ensued between the accused and an adult male there. The accused left the area at this time.

At approximately 6:40 pm he returned to the Hudson Street address and a second altercation occurred between the accused and other individuals at the residence. The accused went into his pickup truck, pulled out a 410-gauge shotgun, and went to the side door of the residence. The accused then pointed the firearm at persons inside the residence. After this, he went to the front door and pounded on it. The accused then left the area in his truck.

Patrol Officers located him at a residence on John Street where at 6:51 pm was arrested and the firearm was seized from his truck. The accused has been charged with Pointing a Firearm and Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to the Public. He will appear in bail court today.


VICTIM STRUCK BY ROCKS
At 8:58 pm last evening Patrol Officers were called to the Howard Johnson Inn at 503 Trunk Rd. for the report of two males throwing rocks off the roof of the business. A 16-year-old male who was walking on the sidewalk of Trunk Rd. was struck by one of the rocks.

The victim of the rock throwing incident received minor injures to his side. The males fled before police could apprehend them and they were described as being young males with one of the suspects wearing a toque type hat. YOUTHS FIRING PELLET GUN AT CARS
Yesterday, shortly before 8:00 pm Patrol Officers responded to a west end residence where several males were on the roof firing a handgun or pellet gun towards cars on the roadway. Patrol Officers located the three males in an upstairs bedroom of the building where the firing of a pellet pistol had come from.

A fourth male, in an attempt to hamper the police investigation, entered the bedroom shortly after the police arrived and refused to leave. At 8:06 pm Police Officers arrested a 15-year-old male, two 17-year-old males and a 19-year-old male in relation to this incident. Police charged the 15-year-old with Obstructing Police, the 17 and 19-year-old males with Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose and released the fourth male unconditionally.

Police seized a "Wather P99" semi-auto style pellet gun. The 17 year old will appear in court today. While the other accused will appear in court on October 21st.


IMPAIRED DRIVING ACCIDENT
Early today, at just after 3:00 am, Jenny Aubertin, age 19 of 21 Ferguson Ave. was driving a 1986 Mustang at what officers believe was a high rate of speed south on John Street. As she approached Bloor Street, she lost control of the car, which slid sideways across the roadway, struck a fence of the residence on the corner and continued across the lawn of the residence.

The vehicle then rolled onto its passenger side and struck a pick up truck parked in the driveway of the residence. The Mustang was demolished in the collision, while the truck received significant damaged to the box area. The accused was transported to hospital by ambulance and was treated for minor injures. She has been charged with Impaired Driving and will appear in court on Oct 21st.


BREAK & ENTERS
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service investigated two break-ins this morning. At 4:18 am Officers were called to Kings Confectionary at 301 Queen Street East for a break in. And shortly after 5:00 am Police Officers were called to All Seasons Sports Wear on King Street for a break in. At the time of this release it is unsure what was taken.
