Officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 46 year-old Mark Manion of #5- 3017 Falconbridge Hwy Garson, Ontario at 1:49 am overnight and charged him with one count of impaired driving and one count of operate motor vehicle while disqualified. It is alleged that officers on routine patrol observed a vehicle westbound on Northern Avenue that was travelling slowly and swerving in the two westbound lanes. The vehicle made a wide turn onto Tadcaster Place and began to travel on the wrong side of the road. Officers stopped it and checked the driver, the accused, and at the time they found him to be under the influence of alcohol. Officers further discovered that the accused was a disqualified driver. He is to appear in bail court this morning.

Joint Drug Investigation Results in Numerous Weapons and Drug Related Charges –UPDATED
Between September 2009 and the 16th of September 2010, members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OPP) conducted an investigation into drug possession and trafficking within the city of Sault Ste. Marie. As a result of that investigation, on the evening of the 15th September 2010, Lorraine Matuszyk age 51 of 206 Spruce Street and Marc Gollain, age 32 of 1651 Grainery Lake Road, Blind River were arrested and charged with six counts of possession of a controlled drug or substance for the purpose of trafficking in relation to cannabis marihuana (25 pounds), cannabis resin (15 pounds), cannabis hashish (2.5 pounds), cocaine (10 ounces), Oxycodone (56 tablets) and morphine tablets (67). The accused were also found in possession of various packaging materials. Officers also located a stolen semi-automatic .22 caliber pistol and in relation to this, both accused were charged with one count of careless storage of a firearm, one count of possession of a weapon obtained by crime, one count of possession of a firearm knowing possession unauthorized and one count of unauthorized possession of a firearm. When the accused Marc Gollain was arrested, he was found in possession of a prohibited weapon – a knife that opens with centrifugal force and was further charged with one count of possession of a prohibited weapon. Officers also seized approximately $25,000 in cash, seized as offence related property. The approximate street value of the drugs seized is $441,000. The accused persons have been remanded in custody pending a bail hearing on Monday. The investigation is ongoing, further charges are pending and there are no further details to be released at this time.

Further Charges Laid on Accused
On the 6th of October at 2:30 p.m. officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Street Team Unit arrested 51 year-old Lorraine Matuszyk of 206 Spruce Street at the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service where she was further charged with one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance for the purpose of trafficking, one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance and one count of possession of property obtained by crime in relation to drugs and money found at a storage unit that was under her control on the 16 of September. She is to attend in court on the 18th of October.

Traffic Services Investigating Motor Vehicle Pedestrian Collision – Requesting Public’s Assistance
Yesterday afternoon at 2:30 pm the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service attended at a collision involving a black Chrysler vehicle and a 68 year-old female pedestrian. It is alleged that the driver of the car was exiting the Swiss Chalet lot onto Great Northern Road attempting to turn left and struck the pedestrian that was walking in an eastbound direction across Great Northern Road. The pedestrian was transported to the hospital by ambulance for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Traffic Services are appealing to a female witness that got onto the city bus shortly after witnessing the collision, or to any other persons that may have witnessed this collision, to please contact them at 949-6300 Extension 348.

Theft Reports
• Two unlocked vehicles on Maki Road were entered sometime overnight on the 6th – 7th of October. Three GPS units and two wallets were reported stolen.
• Lawn chairs were reported stolen from a property on Korah Road.
• A video camera was reported stolen from a building office in the 500 block of Albert Street East.

Mischief Reports
• Windows of a bus shelter on Douglas Street near Korah Road were smashed.
• Three youths broke a light in a yard in the 300m block of Farewell Terrace last evening around 10 pm. All three were wearing hoodies and fled toward Henrietta Avenue.
