STREET TO BE CLOSED FOR FIREFIGHTER'S FUNERAL
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service requests the public's consideration in finding an alternate traffic route during the funeral of deceased Firefighter April Hopkin today. Officers will be closing Wellington St. East from Pilgrim St. to East St. to all traffic from approximately 11:45 am to 2:30 pm today. It is expected a large number of people will be attending the funeral and motorists are advised to take alternate routes.


CHARGED WITH ASSAULT
Yesterday at 11:30 am, Jennifer Swift, age 27 of 1363 Second Line West, assaulted another 27-year-old female by punching her in the left side of her face and hitting her in the left ear. Swift then grabbed the victim who was known to her and kneed her in the groin area.

Swift approached the victim in a local grocery store and initiated the confrontation after a short verbal argument. No injuries were incurred. Patrol officers arrested and charged her with assault at 12:20 pm. She is scheduled to appear in co
