MALE CHARGED WITH ASSAULT A 58-year old male will be appearing in bail court this morning after being arrested shortly before midnight. It is alleged that the male assaulted his wife by striking her in the face and grabbing her by the throat.

A 58-year old male will be appearing in bail court this morning after being arrested shortly before midnight. It is alleged that the male assaulted his wife by striking her in the face and grabbing her by the throat. The male has been charged with one count of assault.

MALE CHARGED WITH ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON

A 36-year old male will also be appearing in bail court this morning on domestic related charges. It is alleged that shortly before 1 am this morning the male threw a candleholder at this girlfriend striking her in the forehead. The victim required medical treatment for non-life threatening injuries. The male has been charged with one count of assault with a weapon.
18-year old Gerry Martel of 73-A Chapple Street will be appearing in bail court this morning after he was arrested last night for his involvement in an assault on another male. It is alleged that yesterday afternoon Mr. Martel assaulted the victim by punching him in the face and threatening to kill him. Mr. Martel has been charged with one count of assault, one count of threatening and one count of breach of probation. A 15-year old youth was also arrested for their involvement in assaulting the victim. It is alleged that the youth assaulted the same victim by hitting the victim with a lock wrapped in a bandana. The youth has been charged with one count of assault with a weapon and will appear in court on December 21st.


NEWS RELEASE

Shortly before 10 pm last night City Police and Fire Department personnel attended at Sutton Park after receiving a call of the playground equipment on fire. Fire Fighters put out a fire on the slide that left a hole in the red plastic. Damage is estimated at over $1,000. There are no suspects at this time. UPDATE:

Yesterday afternoon City Police arrested 2 youths in relation to the above act of mischief. A 13-year old youth has been charged with one count of mischief over $5000. The second youth, age 14, was also charged with one count of mischief over $5,000 as well as one count of breach of probation. Both youths will appear in court on December 21st

SHORT CHANGE SCAM

The Sault Ste Marie Police Fraud Unit received a report yesterday of 2 males operating a “short change scam” at local businesses. The suspect approached a merchant to exchange ten-dollar bills for twenties and made the exchange while talking on a cell phone and distracting the merchant. The 2 suspects then complain they were short changed in an attempt to have the employee provide more cash. The suspects have been going from store to store. Suspect 1 is described as male, white, short in height, light hair, red and beige jacket, age 20-25 years. The second suspect is described as male, white, long black hair, wearing a ball cap, white pants with a stripe and a black jacket. As the Christmas season approaches and the shopping rush begins there will likely be more opportunities for this type of crime.
