Last night city police were called to a centrally located address regarding a dispute. Upon arrival officers spoke to a female complainant. It is alleged that the complainant’s ex-boyfriend had been at her residence, while prohibited by a court order. The accused fled when the complainant called the police. A short time later police officers located and arrested the accused. The 42-year-old male is charged with two counts of breach of probation and two counts of breach of a recognizance. At the time of the offence the accused was on conditions to stay away from the complainant and not communicate with her.

Early this morning city police were called to the Women in Crisis regarding an assault victim. As a result of police investigation a 37-year-old female was charged with one count of assault. It is alleged that the accused punched the victim several times in the face and ribs. The victim was taken to the Sault Area Hospital and treated for her injuries.

Female arrested for impaired driving

Last night at approx. 6:30 city police were called to attend on Trunk Rd regarding a possible impaired driver. Upon arriving in the area officers located the suspect vehicle and subsequently arrested a female driver. It is alleged that the accused, Amanda Guido, age 31, of 16 Amherst St. was operating her vehicle while in an intoxicated condition. The accused is charged with one count of impaired driving. She will be appearing in court on June 21st at 9:00 am.

A bicycle was stolen from the 200 block of Great Northern Rd. Electronics were stolen from a vehicle in the 200 block of parkland Cres. A red off-road motorcycle was stolen from the area of Mark’s bay off Airport Rd. It is described as red with numerous decals on it.

Note to motorists and cyclists

A City of Sault Ste Marie bylaw states that persons aged 10 years of age and older shall ride their bicycle on the roadway. That being said it is the cyclists right to ride his/her bicycle on the road and motorists shall share the roadway with the cyclist. When passing a cyclist, motorists shall pass on the left allowing sufficient room on the roadway for the cyclist. Failure to share the roadway could result in a charge under the Highway Traffic Act which could result in a fine and demerit points.

(4) Every person in charge of a vehicle on a highway meeting a person travelling on a bicycle shall allow the cyclist sufficient room on the roadway to pass. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 148 (4).

(6) Every person on a bicycle or motor assisted bicycle who is overtaken by a vehicle or equestrian travelling at a greater speed shall turn out to the right and allow the vehicle or equestrian to pass and the vehicle or equestrian overtaking shall turn out to the left so far as may be necessary to avoid a collision.
