Afternoon news: On 01May13 two males were arrested on several outstanding warrants. 19 year old Dylan King of no fixed address and 20 year old Dondel Wigwas of no fixed address were arrested for several offences and sent to bail court.

On 01May13 two males were arrested on several outstanding warrants.  19 year old Dylan King of no fixed address and 20 year old Dondel Wigwas of no fixed address were arrested for several offences and sent to bail court.  As a result of his behaviour, it was believed Dondel Wigwas was suspected of drug smuggling.  He was kept under observation at all times including bail court and subsequent remand to the Algoma Treatment and Remand Center.

On the 02May13, the Sault Ste Marie Police Street Team attended at the Algoma Treatment and Remand Center, 800 Great Northern Road, Sault Ste Marie, after being notified of a drug seizure. Correctional Officers seized cigarette matches, match striker strips, 0.5 grams of cocaine, 40 grams of marijuana, a 5 gram vial of cannabis resin, 6 tablets of MDMA (Ecstasy), 27 tablets of Clonazepam, and 1 Fentanyl patch that had been concealed in the rectum of Dondel Wigwas. The marijuana was packaged for distribution.

The accused has been charged with 2 counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and 5 counts of possession of a controlled drug under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. The value of the drugs seized is estimated at $1,395.00. Wigwas will appear in bail court again on 03May13.

On 02May13 at 11:23 hours the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service received a call from Canada Customs regarding suspicious activity and drug use by a group of four individuals at the Whitefish Island and Canal properties.  A motor vehicle stop was initiated and a female driver was subsequently arrested for consuming liquor over the legal amount.  Brooke Amber Michano, age 29, of 35 Boston Avenue has been charged with having care and control of a motor exceeding 80 milligrams blood alcohol content.  She will appear in court on 10Jun13.

Kristiani Matilla, age 22, of 679 North Street was arrested at 1225 today on an outstanding warrant for fail to appear court.  He will appear in court on 10Jun13.

Adrianna Costello, age 22, of 317 Wellington St. E., was arrested at the Station Mall Wal-Mart at 1:25 p.m. and charged with theft.  It is alleged she filled a plastic container with $742.77 worth of merchandise and left the store without paying.  She was apprehended in the parking lot by store security.  Costello will appear in court on 10Jun13.

Morning news

On the 1st of May at approximately 8:30 pm, police attended at Sault Area Hospitals where it was reported that a male had damaged equipment in the emergency department.  As a result of the investigation 34 year old Jean Paul Gavin of 56 Spruce Street was charged with one count of mischief under $5000.  He will be appearing in court on June 3rd.

On May 1st at approximately 10:00 pm police responded to a report of a break and enter in the 600 block of Wellington Street East.  It was reported that between 6:40 pm and 10:00 pm an unknown person or persons gained entry to an apartment through a window, ransacked the apartment and stole a quantity of jewelry.

Homeowners in the 1500 block of Trunk Road reported that they returned home in the early morning hours of May 2nd after having been vacationing for several weeks.  Upon their return they discovered that their home had been broken into.  A quantity of cash and a coin collection are reported to have been stolen.

A vehicle parked in the 600 block of Queen Street East had a window smashed and a gym bag stolen.
