SNOWBALL THROWN AT COP
20 year-old Edward Joel Galbraith of 442 Northern Avenue was arrested and charged early this morning after he threw a snowball and struck a police officer. Galbraith is charged with assaulting a peace officer after the alleged incident in the parking lot at 443 Northern Avenue. Mr. Galbraith is scheduled to appear in court on April 19th. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident.
SEXUAL ASSAULT, INCEST
A 44 year-old woman will appear in bail court this morning after she was arrested and charged yesterday by officers of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service detective branch. The accused will face charges of sexual assault and incest. The offences are reported to have occurred between April and October of 2003.
MORE CHARGES FOR TODD PETRIE
Todd Allan Petrie, age 41 of 86 Albert Street West has been charged with an additional 5 counts of fraud. Mr. Petrie was charged on the 2nd of March with 13 counts of fraud. The new charges are alleged to have happened between February 20th, 2003 and February 22nd, 2004 when Mr. Petrie wrote cheques to local businesses from a closed account. Petrie is scheduled to appear in bail court this morning.
NUNCHAKU STICKS
Michael Harold Bjornaa, age 19 was charged with possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of break in tools and possession of stolen property and will appear in bail court this morning. Officers executed outstanding arrest warrants for Bjornaa as a result of search done at his residence on December 29th of 2003. The weapon found during that search was a set of Nunchaku sticks
TRANSPORT MEETS TRAIN
There was a motor vehicle collision at 8:25 am yesterday between a transport truck and a train at the intersection of Frontenac Street and Trunk Road. Daniel See, age 38 was operating the transport on Frontenac St., made a right turn to Trunk Road where the railway lights and bell were activated. The transport was driven across the tracks but the trailer portion did not make it all the way over the tracks. The trailer was struck by the eastbound train and was pushed into a utility pole. There was moderate damage done to the trailer and light damage to the train. Mr. See was charged with disobey railway-crossing signal, fail to stop. No injuries were reported.
ALBERT STREET FIRE
Detectives from the city police are currently investigating a suspicious fire that occurred at an Albert Street residence on Wednesday morning. At 1:05 am police officers observed a fire on a porch of the residence where a mattress that had been stored was on fire. The blaze that appeared to be catching to other parts of the porch was extinguished by the fire department. Police are asking if anyone has information regarding this incident, to call the detective branch of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service or Crimestoppers
