Two Males Charge In Seperate Domestic Disputes

Two males will appear in bail court this morning in relation to two separate domestic violence investigations:

1) A 42-year old male was arrested yesterday morning and charged with three counts of breach of probation. It is alleged that on the 30thof May the accused attended at his ex-girlfriend’s east end residence and tried to communicate with her. The accused was on probation with terms including not to attend at the victim’s address and not to communicate with her.

2) Just after 2 am this morning City Police attended at a residence in the west end of town for a domestic dispute. It is alleged that the accused and his girlfriend got into a verbal argument and police were called. When officers arrived a query of the 21 year old male revealed that he was on a release order with conditions not to communicate with the female as well as not to consume alcohol. The accused was also on probation with terms to keep the peace and be good. The male has been charged with two counts of breach of a release order and one count of breach of probation.

Fraud

Yesterday afternoon 49-year old Arthur Tombari of 111 Pinto Driver turned himself into investigators from the Fraud Unit. Mr. Tombari was charged with two counts of fraud over $5,000. It is alleged that between July and September of 2003 the accused allegedly defrauded Northern Fortress Financial and Leasing of money for the purpose of purchasing and selling vehicles for profit that were previously sold and not held by Tombari. It is further alleged that in August of 2003 the accused allegedly defrauded Autoland National Leasing Limited by contracting and receiving funds from them for the purpose of purchasing and selling vehicles for profit that were previously sold and not held by the accused. The defrauded value is $266,527.98. Mr. Tombari will appear in court on July 17th.

Charged For Threats

19-year old Tyler McMillan of 102-524A Goulais Avenue was arrested last evening and charged with two counts of threatening to cause death or bodily harm. It is alleged that on both the 6th and 7th of June the accused threatened to cause death or bodily harm to a male victim known to the accused. The accused will appear in court on July 10th.

Mischief

A 14-year old youth was arrested yesterday morning and charged with one count of mischief. It is alleged that during the school hours yesterday the youth damaged 3 computer stations and broke a computer speaker at an elementary school. It is further alleged that the youth also damaged a closet door at the school. City Police were called to the school and arrested the youth. The accused will appear in court on July 25th.

Assault

18-year old Kathleen Boissoneau of 180 White Birch Drive, Garden River was arrested yesterday and charged with one count of assault. It is alleged that yesterday the accused assaulted a female victim in the central part of town by punching, pushing and kicking the victim in the head and face area. The victim received non-life threatening injuries but did not require medical treatment at the time. The accused and victim are known to each other. The accused will appear in court on July 24th.

Bear Sightings

Yesterday City Police received four reports of bear sightings:

1) Around 6 pm last night City Police were called to the area of Pointe Des Chenes Park after a report was received of a large bear in the park.

2) Just after 7 pm a homeowner in the 500 block of Old Garden River Road reported a smaller bear in his back yard. The bear was gone from the area upon police arrival.

3) Just after 9 pm last evening a bear was spotted in the field area around Black Road and McNabb Street.

4) Shortly after 1 am this morning a homeowner in the 500 block of McNabb Street reported a bear sitting on the lawn of the Community of Christ Church.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Services and the Ministry of Natural Resources are reminding homeowners not to leave food sources out for the bears. This includes filling bird feeders, leaving pet food outside and leaving garbage out. If you see a bear that is not threatening or is not an immediate danger contact the MNR Bear Line at 1-866-514-2327. If a bear is aggressive or acting in a threatening manner, contact the City Police at 911. Do not approach any bear you see.
