Morning Report

Arrests/Charged Persons:

23 year old Ashley Swanson of 680 Portage Lane was arrested on a warrant for failing to appear for court on a previous charge of fraud in relation to fares.

35 year old Kerry Mearow (male) of 18B Wellington St E. was arrested and will be in bail court today after being arrested for theft and possession of stolen property.  It is alleged that on July 4, at approximately 1935 hours the accused Kerry Mearow was in Food Basics on Trunk Rd. where he concealed two packages of t-bone steak and a two packages of chicken breasts with a value $63.30.  A cashier advised the male to stop as he continued through check-out and he fled the store. Mearow was followed by an off-duty police officer and was arrested on Gibbs Street.  He was found in possession of the meat when arrested.

23 year old Gilbert Ryan Wilson  - known as Ryan Wilson of 34 Broadview Drive faces numerous charges after being arrested yesterday afternoon following a short foot chase.  Wilson was arrested on warrants for breach of probation X 3,  uttering counterfeit money X 2, breach of recognizance  X3, possession of weapons dangerous, disguise with intent, and break and enter.

It is alleged that on October 18 a male attended the Beaver Gas Bar at 266 Korah Road and purchased twenty dollars in gas using a hundred dollar U.S. currency and receiving change. The bill was later identified as counterfeit currency.  The accused was caught on camera and identified. On October 16 police received a complaint of counterfeit money being used at Dock's Waterfront Bar and Grill at 89 Foster Dr. where Wilson was subsequently identified as the suspect.

Also on the 25th day of March 2012 officers were attempting to locate Gilbert Wilson to serve him a summons from Probation and Parole services in regards to a probation violation.  Mr. Wilson was to reside with his surety at 34 Broadview Drive and not change that address without permission of the court, as well as the condition was to remain in residence daily except for employment purposes or in presence of his surety or for the purpose of complying with his probation order. Wilson was no longer residing there.

Wilson has also been charged in relation to a home invasion on Johnson Avenue on 08 April 2012 where 3 disguised males pushed their way into a residence with weapons.

A 39 year old male will also be attending bail court today charged with one count of threaten death after making the threat to his estranged spouse over the telephone.

Break and Enters/Other Property Crimes:  (Thefts, Mischief Reports, etc.):

Police assisted Fire Services at a house fire at 452 Wellington St. E. overnight where it appears the fire was accidentally started with a cigarette.  Tenants have been displaced due to smoke damage and Victim Services Algoma sent a team to assist.
