The following persons will appear in bail court this morning:
1) A 15-year old youth was arrested yesterday afternoon and charged with one count of mischief and one count of breach of probation under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA). It is alleged that the female damaged a door of the residence in which she resides by breaking the lock and frame. At the time of the offence the accused was on probation with conditions to keep the peace and be good.
2) 29-year old Richard Nanchin of 12-864 Queen Street East was arrested yesterday afternoon and charged with 55 counts of attempt fraud, 55 counts of uttering a forged document, one count of fraud and two counts of stolen credit card data after the Fraud Unit received a complaint last year. It is alleged that between June of 2006 and January of 2007 the accused filled out a large number of true name fraudulent credit card applications and as a result received several cards and made credit card cheques payable to himself. The estimated fraud loss to the credit card company is $1,000.
3) A 27-year old male as arrested yesterday afternoon and charged with 4 counts of assault. It is alleged that between May and December of 2006 the accused assaulted his common law wife on 4 different occasions. The assaults consisted of punching and slapping the victim.
4) 42-year old Justin Ali Butorac of 340 Pine Street was arrested last evening by Patrol Officers and charged with one count of mischief under $5,000 and one count of breach and enter and commit an offence. It is alleged that the accused broke into a room at the Howard Johnson Hotel on Trunk Road on January 3rd.
5) Just before 10 pm last night officers arrested a 44-year old male and charged him with one count of assault. It is alleged that the accused assaulted his common-law wife by grabbing her and pushing her last evening in their home.
6) A 17-year old youth was arrested just after 2:30 am this morning and charged with one count of breach of a release order and two counts of breach of probation (YCJA). The youth turned himself into officers on an outstanding arrest warrant for these charges. The charges stem from the accused allegedly failing to notify a change of address, disobeying a curfew and for failing to keep the peace and be good.
7) A 14-year old youth was arrested just before 10 pm last night and charged with one count of break and enter and commit an offence, one count of trespass by night, one count of mischief under $5,000 and one count of possession of housebreaking tools. It is alleged that the accused broke into a home on Spadina Avenue and was scared off by the homeowner who called police and provided a description and direction of travel for the suspect. The accused was temporarily detained by a dog in a yard on Pittsburgh Avenue but was able to flee the yard after this homeowner also called the police. With the assist of Police Dog Tazer officers were able to locate the male in a west end residence. Officers also recovered property that had been taken in the break and enter including jewellery, electronics, liquor and cash. Officers also located both cutters and a screwdriver. The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to thank the members of the public who called in the suspicious activity of the suspect as he was fleeing the scene.
Female Charged with Criminal Harassment
A 47-year old female was arrested last night and charged with four counts of criminal harassment. It is alleged that between the 28th of November 2006 and the 2nd of January 2007 the accused repeatedly contacted her ex-boyfriend after being warned by police not to contact the victim any further. Contact consisted of calling family members and sending e-mails to the victim. She will appear in court on January 31st.
Stolen Car on Fire
Last evening officers from Patrol Services attended in the 100 block of Churchill Boulevard for a car fire. Members from Sault Fire Services were on scene. It has been determined that the vehicle was stolen from South Ontario. The investigation is continuing and there are no further details available at this time.
