A Reminder to Motorist

The Sault Ste Marie Police Service would like to remind motorists to adjust their driving habits to the road conditions today. Many of the side streets are very icy. The main streets are bare in some areas with icy patches. Slow down and arrive at your destination accident free.


Male Turns Himself In

22-year old Jason Haynes of 20 River Road, in Heyden turned himself into City Police yesterday on outstanding arrest warrants. Mr. Haynes will be appearing in bail court today on two counts of fail to appear for fingerprints, one count of fail to appear in court as well as one count of cause a disturbance. The incidents stem from 2004.

Youth Charged with Assaulting A Police Officer

A 15-year old young person will be appearing in bail court today after being arrested last evening in a public place in the downtown area. The youth was being apprehended by police for non-criminal related matters when it was found out by the officers that the youth had an open jackknife clutched in his hand, which had to be wrestled from the youth. Shortly before the officers located the youth, the youth had made indirect threats to slash officer’s throats if they apprehended the youth. After the officers wrestled the knife away from the youth, the youth continued to resist arrest and kicked one of the officers. The youth was tasered to gain control. The youth was not harmed in the incident. At the time of this incident the accused was on probation with terms to keep the peace and be good. The youth has been charged with one count of breach of probation, one count of assault police officer, and one count of possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose to public.

Break and Enter

City Police are currently investigating a break and enter that
occurred yesterday afternoon shortly before 2 pm. A homeowner returned to their residence in the 100 block of Maple Street and found a male in their residence. When the homeowner confronted the suspect the suspect left behind a duffle bag with stolen property in it and fled the scene as the homeowner called 911. Nothing appears to have been taken in this incident. Police arrived on scene and searched the area with negative results. The suspect is described as a native male, 5’ 9” tall, in his 20’s, had a moustache and was wearing a black coat, faded jeans, and a beige toque. The suspect was last seen headed in the direction of Spruce Street. If you know who this suspect is call City Police at 949-6300 or Crime Stoppers at 942-7867.

Break and Enter

A second break and enter was reported early this morning. Sometime between 9 pm and 3 am thieves broke into a residence in the 1000 block of People’s Road and made off with jewellery, DVD’s and a small amount of cash.

Theft from Highschool

City Police investigating a report of a theft from Korah High School yesterday. The school reports that they are missing a Sony video projector. The projector had last been seen the 3rd of January and has not been seen since. The projector is valued at approximately $5000.
