WOMAN CHARGED WITH MULTIPLE OFFENCES Yesterday, shortly before noon, patrol officers were called to a residence on Adrian Drive to remove a male from the residence.
WOMAN CHARGED WITH MULTIPLE OFFENCES
Yesterday, shortly before noon, patrol officers were called to a residence on Adrian Drive to remove a male from the residence.

Officers located a 41-year-old male victim loading his belongings into a vehicle and proceeding to leave the area. Police observed that he had a wound on the back of his neck and dried blood in that area of his body.

The victim advised Police that, at about 11:30 am, the accused, Shirley Kennard, age 52 of 75 Adrian Dr. assaulted him, striking him several times with a hammer. Described as a rock type hammer or an ice pick style hammer, it was used to strike the victim in the upper body.

Officers further learned that on Monday, Kennard pointed a loaded .303 rifle at the victim and threatened to kill him. Police officers spoke to Kennard in the residence and arrested her for Assault with a Weapon.

While affecting her arrest, Officers noted a strong odour of marijuana along with signs of a growing operation.

Patrol officers with the assistance of officers from the Joint Forces Drug Unit executed a Criminal Code and Controlled Drug and Substance Act Warrants on the home.

Officers located an unsafely stored .303 rifle and unsafely stored ammunition. Kennard had unauthorized possession of the firearm by way of no license or registration certificate.

Further Police located 21 marijuana plants being grown in the basement of the residence in pots, along with soil, growing lights and a fan. Officers also located 512 grams of cannabis marijuana drying, having been recently harvested.

A further 167 grams of already dried and packaged cannabis marijuana was also in the residence. Total street value of all drugs seized is estimated at $34,580.

Officers, while arresting Kennard, located an 8-inch "Defender" knife with two finger holes, in her purse. She has been charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Pointing A Firearm, Assault with a Weapon, two counts of Unsafe Storage of a Weapon, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Controlled Drug and Possession of a Controlled Drug for the Purpose of Trafficking. She will appear in bail court today.


CHARGED WITH FIREARMS OFFENCES
On the January 22, at approximately 11:40 pm, patrol officers were called to a home on Manitou Drive for a domestic occurrence. A domestic argument had been reported between the husband and wife who reside at that address. Both parties were calmed down and there was no evidence of any physical violence.

However Officers did learn that there were several firearms in the home. Officers located the firearms in a closet in a spare bedroom behind a furnace.

These firearms were all standing in the corner of the closet and a small box of ammunition was in that bedroom near the bedside table. More ammunition was located on the other side of the bedroom in a green and beige tackle box marked ammunition.

All the firearms were seized. It was determined that the firearms (7 long guns in total) belonged to the husband and the wife's son. Yesterday at 3:20 pm Officers completed their investigation by arresting and charging a 48-year-old male and a 23-year-old male with Careless Use of a Firearm. They will appear in court March 10th.


MAN TAKEN TO HOSPITAL
Yesterday at 2:20 pm patrol officers were called to a home on Henrietta Avenue where a 44-year-old male threaten numerous times to kill himself. The male victim stated to police numerous times that he wanted to die. Officers apprehended him for his own safety and escorted him to the hospital for treatment.


REQUEST FOR ASSISTANCE
Officers from the Traffic Services Section are requesting the public's assistance in locating any witnesses to a motor vehicle collision that occurred on Northern Ave. near Alexander High School between 3 and 4 pm yesterday.

The incident involved a van that struck a snowbank after it avoided striking a school bus. If you have any information on this incident, you are asked to contact the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service at 949-6300 ext 348.
