Numerous Motor Vehicle Collisions Reported Yesterday
There were 29 motor vehicle collisions reported to the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service yesterday. Minor injuries were reported in four of the collisions. Several collisions were intersection related due to the slippery roadways and a majority were as result of motorists driving too fast during the poor weather conditions.

Due to the heavy snowfall yesterday and cold temperatures, the road conditions may still be slippery, especially near intersections. Police remind motorists that during poor weather or road conditions, to leave earlier allowing for extra time travelling to and from your destination, always leave ample space between vehicles and please slow down and adjust your driving to the weather and road conditions.

Police also remind motorists involved in minor property damage collisions to utilize the Collision Reporting Centre at the Sault Ste Marie Police Service at 580 Second Line East. 705-252-1600

• If the damage to both vehicles combined appears to be less than $1,000 you don’t need to involve the police. You should exchange your name, drivers licence information, vehicle ownership information and insurance information with the other party. Make sure all information is complete and accurate. If the other party refuses to do this, call the police for assistance. Once the information has been exchanged, you can make a civil agreement to fix damages or go through insurance.

• If the collision results in an injury or you believe that the other party may be under the influence of alcohol, police officers will attend and investigate the collision at the scene. Ensure your safety at the scene, get the names of any potential witnesses that might assist the officers and wait for police to arrive.

• If at anytime you want police advice about a collision that just occurred call (705) 949-6300 for advice or 911 if it is an emergency
