Fraud Charges Laid

28-year old Shawn Gallant of 182 Dennis Street will appear in bail court this morning after being arrested last evening. It is alleged that between the 10 and the 14th of December the accused withdrew money from an account knowing there was no money in the account. The value involved was under $5,000. Mr. Gallant has been charged with 4 counts of fraud under $5,000.

Assault Charge

A 25-year old male will appear in bail court this morning after being arrested shortly after 1 am in relation to a domestic dispute call at a downtown residence. It is alleged that the male assaulted his girlfriend by punching her, and throwing her to the floor. At one point the accused also struck the victim in the back with a broom handle. The victim did not seek medical treatment at the time for non-life threatening injuries. The accused has been charged with one count of assault causing bodily harm and one count of assault with a weapon.

Female Hits Police Officer

42-year old Roxanne Perreault of 1504 Wellington Street East apartment B will appear in court on March 14th after she struck a police officer last night. Shortly after 2 am City Police officers attended at a downtown address for a noise complaint and during their investigation, the accused struck the officer in the neck. The accused has been charged with one count of assault peace officer.

Firearm Charges Laid

City Police arrested 21-year old Hilary Cartmill of upper apartment- 350 Bloor St W yesterday afternoon. Officers attended at the address after receiving information that the accused had a firearm at that address. Officers located a loaded .22 calibre rifle that was not secured properly. The firearm belonged to someone known to the accused. The accused has been charged with one count of careless storage of a firearm and one count of unauthorized possession of a firearm. She will appear in court on March 14th.

Youth Charged with Possession of a Weapon

Yesterday afternoon City Police attended at an elementary school regarding a student threatening another student. It is alleged that a 13-year old student was attempting to pry open a storage area with a pocketknife when 2 other students came across this student. It is alleged that the accused threatening to kill the other students if they told anyone. Police were subsequently called after the victims told a staff member. The 13-year old youth as been charged with one count of threatening and one count of possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose and will appear in court on March 15th.
Officers from the Community Services Section will be attending at the school today to liaison with staff and students to ensure the safety of all staff and students in the future.

Break and Enters

Yesterday City Police received 2 reports of break and enters. A home in the 600 block of Second Avenue was entered. It is unknown if anything was taken at this time. Shortly before 1:30 am the Cash Store at 154 Great Northern Road was broken into but it is unknown if anything was taken at this time.
