Just a Reminder...

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to remind motorist to take the time this morning to scrap their windshields off. Not only is it unsafe to drive with your windshield obstructed it is also an offence under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

3 Incidents of Youths being Charged

1) Yesterday morning officers from Patrol Services arrested two 14-year-old youths after attending at an address for a family dispute call. It is alleged that a 14-year old female damaged several pieces of property including an antique clock. At the time of the offence the youth was on a release document not to molest, harass or annoy her parents. She has been charged with one count of mischief under $5,000 and one count of breach of a release order. The 14-year old male in the home was on probation with conditions to attend school and also to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. He has been charged with two counts of breach of probation under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) and will also appear in bail court this morning.

2) Last evening officers arrested a 17-year old youth and charged him with one count of unlawfully at large and one count of breach of probation under the YCJA. It is alleged that on the 13th of December the youth escaped from the youth facility he was in. At the time of the offence he was on probation with conditions to keep the peace and be good. He will appear in bail court this morning.

3) Just after 3 am this morning officers from Patrol Services arrested a 16-year old youth and charged him with 5 counts of breach of probation under the YCJA. It is alleged that on December 12th and 13th the accused failed to abide by his curfew conditions as well as the conditions of keep the peace and be good. He will also appear in bail court this morning.

Two People Charged with Theft under $5000

1) Yesterday afternoon 43-year old Edward Martel of 3-157 Albert Street East was charged with one count of theft under $5,000. It is alleged that in August of this year the accused took a package of cigarettes without paying for them from Mac’s Mart store on Wellington Street East. The accused will appear in court on January 22nd.

2) Yesterday afternoon 37-year old Natalie Bowerman of 3-823 Wellington Street East was arrested for one count of theft under $5,000 and one count of breach of probation. It is alleged that the accused stole several items of food from Rome’s and was apprehended by store security. At the time of the offence the accused was on probation with conditions to keep the peace and be good. She will appear in court on January 22nd.

Power Outage

Yesterday just before 11 am a transport driver struck a PUC pole in the 400 block of Industrial Park Court. No injuries were received in the collision. It is alleged that the 42-year old driver was reversing into an address and struck the guide wires of the PUC pole and pole broke causing a power disruption. No charges have been laid in the incident as it occurred off of the roadway on private property.

Motor Vehicle Collision

Last night just before 10:30 pm officers from Patrol Services attended at Central Street and McAllen Street for a motor vehicle collision which sent one person to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. A car operated by a 53-year old male was traveling eastbound on Central Street. A pickup truck operated by a 47-year old male was traveling northbound on McAllen Street and allegedly failed to stop for the stop sign and stuck the car. The driver of the car was taken to the hospital. Both vehicles were severely damaged. The 47-year old male has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario with one count of disobey stop sign-fail to stop.

Two break and enters were reported in the last 24 hour period:

1) Sometime within the last month a unit at Store It Yourself was entered and a large amount of items were taken. The property list is still being worked on.

2) Sometime between 2 pm and 7 pm on the 13th of December a home on Euclid Road was entered. A DVD, a laptop and jewellery were taken.
