Theft and assault charges

The following are news releases issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service:

On August 1, 2017 officers with the Patrol Services Division of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 36-year-old Craig Smith of no fixed address in relation to a theft and robbery.

It is alleged that on August 1, the accused attended retail store in the 400-block of Great Northern Road where he selected just under $200.00 worth of merchandise and left the store without paying. 

When the accused was apprehended by store security, he became uncooperative and threatened to stab the loss prevention officer.  The accused left the area and was located a short distance away by police. 

He was placed in custody and charged with one count of robbery, one count of possession of stolen property, one count of theft under $5,000 and one count of breach of probation.  He will appear in court on September 18, 2017.

On July 31, 2017 officers with the Patrol Services Division of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 35-year-old Shannon Boyer of Wellington Street East for assault.

It is alleged that on July 31, the accused was at the residence of a person known to her and engaged in a verbal argument with a male victim.  The argument escalated and the accused assaulted the victim by striking him with various items including a plate, a glass bottle and a toaster.

Police were contacted and the accused was soon after located and taken into custody.  She has been charged with one count of assault with a weapon and one count of assault causing bodily harm.  She will appear in court on September 11, 2017.
